Message: man, that thing actually helps,
I maxed everything on, Raised the Speed Limiter, got rid of the Rev Limiter, and put it on the High Performance setting, and adjusted for tire size (32s)
man, at 3,500 rpms it feels like 5,000 rpms,
I could bark the tires a little hitting 3rd, at 40 mph, 3,500 rpms,
I could bark them extremely well at 5,000 rpms.
I can definitly feel a difference in performance, I run 93 octane, plus STP Gas Treatment, and it still pings like a mofo, just not as bad, just at low rpms.
the truck definetly feels quicker.
2001 Club Cab 4x4 5-Speed Manual 3.55 Gears
HO cams, KN Intake, F/B 70mm TB, Gibson Headers, Flowmaster 40 series, and the 3715 Tuner to balance it all out.
I bought the tuner off of Ebay, under Cheeppp Parts, for 290 dollars, good deal overall

Message: Mine pinged the FIRST time I tried the 91 setting.
I had 89 octane and octane booster.
Next time I got a full tank of 91 I tried it again. So far so good on the 91 setting.

Message: Occasional light pinging is not going to damage your engine.
A couple of things might help reduce or eliminate pinging. Try a 180 stat. If you have a lot miles on the engine, try cleaning the combustion chambers with several treatments of Seafoam. Injector sync may be a factor, but not quite sure about that.

Message: Funny you sday that. I was thinking of the PINGING myself the other day. Back 20 years ago I'd know people who had cars that pinged on a daily basis at certain loads but drove them anyway. In many cases nothing bad really happened. They got USED to it.
Whenever I heard mine ping, I'd retard my timing a smidge. Ahh.. back in the day when you could turn a distributor a few degrees :)
