Subject: tranny problems since mods IP: Logged
Message: I got a 2000 dodge dakota rc 4x4 automatic. My problem is my trans shifts from 1st to 2nd at 40mph and 5000 rpm!!!! then from 2nd to 3rd at 75 mph and 5500 rpm!!!! My overdrive off/on switch does absolutely nothing now. Here's what I did: changed stock filter to airaid intake with k&n and adjusted tps voltage....however, I removed the negative off the battery while the key was in the on position and reconnected the negative with the key still in the on position. I'm wondering if I possibly fried a trans sensor/speed sensor or jacked up the shift points in the computer? I don't what happened but before I made these adjustments, the truck was running great. Any clues?? Appreciate it, guys.

Message: Try this reset procedure.
With the ignition key in your pocket, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Now take that key out of your pocket and turn the ignition switch to the START position while pressing on the brake pedal. Hold for a count of five. Now take your foot off the brake and the put the key back in your pocket.
Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
Road test.

Message: You prob. messed up your TPS. The TPS trick is not recommended. It is ending up hurting more people than helping anyone. After you try the above post, buy a new one and all will probably be fine.

Message: Well thanks for the feedback. I went and turned the tps sensor down to about .65 v and reset the pcm with the 5 sec brake procedure and now it shifts much better (1-2 at 2500 rpm and 2-3 at 3000 rpm). Still a little rough at times but pretty much back to normal. Thanks for the tips.

I tried this but the key won't come out of the ignition while it was still in the "START position." I then tried taking my pants off so that I could easily get the key in the pocket. That didn't seem to have the desired effect so I finally gave up, turned the key to the off position, put my pants back on and every thing seemed to work just fine.

Message: Well I thought she was fixed but the problem is still there....1-2 shift at 35 mph...2-3 shift at 75 mph...3-4(overdrive) at 100 mph. Almost like my shift points are messed up. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Message: Assuming that you have a 4.7 with the 45Rfe tranny, sounds like the tranny is in limp mode. Most likely it has nothing to do with your recent mods, but there is the outside possibility that the TPS is bad. The TPS mod normally works well to my knowledge. I had mine set for .7 and had it like that for 30K miles with out any problems (due to the TPS).
How many miles have you driven since this condition started? You may need to put some real miles on it for the computer find a fault some where and give you a CE light. When in limp mode the tranny will shift close to redline and there will be no O/D or lock up. If that is the case you should get a fault code after only a few miles.

Message: Yeah I do have a check engine light. Took it to autozone, they checked the code and it was tps related.
