Message: I have 42k on my 5.2L, is it too high to start using synthetic oil. Should I go one term on a synthetic blend before going full synthetic?

Message: That is what I did. When I got my '94 with 108,000 i went with a good quality blend for the first 4 oil changes then i went to the full synth. So far I have not had any issues. Good luck

Message: Another alternative is just to mix your own blend the first couple of oil changes. Most blends are 30% synthetic 70% conventional oil. You can just put 50% synthic and 50% regular oil in your engine and it will cost you about the same as the sythetic blends but it will offer better protection. If you go to walmart they offer a store brand 100% synthetic for $2.49-$2.99 and auto zone offer Exon synthetic oil for $2.49. I would probably use these in a 50/50 blend the first 2-4 oil changes. I can not see buying the very best synthetic if you are going to dillute it with regular oil. After that you can just use your favorite oil companys brand synthetic.
