Message: frontier has better quarter mile times.
that 4.0 liter is a stroked version of the 3.5 which is in the maxima. fast car, bigger engine in a truck not much heavier, fast truck.

Message: I once saw a honda Civic try to tow another Honda Civic down the freeway once.
It didn't go too far. The one trying to do the towing let a lot of smoke out from under the hood. Either overheated or fried the clutch.
Either way. A honda can't tow another Honda.
At least a Dak could tow another Dak clear across the country if it needed to!

Message: just compare the torque curve.
Nissan has a history of making very tough engines, but for truck type duty i would still chose the v8

Message: Hell yeah, V8s and Diesels are made to tow. they have that good low end ass.
I also think that the newest Nissan engines are pretty powerful, I just do not see the need to have a top heavy exterra with 265 Hp, can you say dangerous? as in "time to roll." literally.
my 285+HP, and 340+TQ 4.7L is all I need, I have hauled alot of stuff in my truck. mulch, firewood, logs, brush, everything. I need that extra power.

Message: V boy,
If my dak puts down about 266HP, and 366 ft/lbs of torque, at the crank, how does yours do the #'s you mentioned.
I guess the question is, what you got? and what math did you use, if any, from what dyno #'s, if any?
Now be cool with your reply, I'm not calling you out, just curious, since I have a dak, that nearly stock puts down good #'s.

Message: That is just a rough estimation, it might actually be lower than that. I never dynoed it so I just guessed the gains,
that is alright with you isn't it Texas Todd?
here are my mods, how much HP and TQ do I have?
4.7L
Mopar HO cams, Gibson Shorty Headers, KN FIPK, FB 70mm Ported TB, and a Flowmaster 40 series muffler.
what do I got?

Message: V boy,
I'm not really sure on your hp. Definitely more than stock. One advantage to a flash or tuner (one that works anyway), is that you get some more timing advance from it, which gives you some hp right there. As is known, the 4.7 is pretty good stock, but it can stand for a little more advance. Especially with the other mods.
My set up is
HO cams and HO intake
homebrew 'true' CAI with K&N filter
Ported stock 68mm TB- self dremel tooled
NO third cat
autolite 3923's
NO stinkin belt driven clutch/fan
SuperChips Tuner
into a QC, manual tranny, LSD 3.55rear, with tire and handling pack, trailer towing, etc.
even with a long two piece drive shaft, 301ft/lbs of torque, at the RW.
And yes, your estimating is cool with me.

Message: a couple mor questions,
where is the clutch fan>? and what does it help in removing it?
also, why don't they have a hypertech tuner for a 4.7? does it help?
also I figured that single mods don't help too much, but you bundle them together, ie Intake + TB, or Headers + Exaust, and well, the cams they speak for themselves,
Todd, is your Dak 2x4? if so, the HO intake probably helps in top end, but in my truck, a clubcab 4x4 with 3.55s and 32 inch tires, I do not want to loose any more low end.

Message: V boy,
The clutch fan, is on the front of the water pump, even if the clutch is freewheeling, it still spins a mass, which takes some HP. The 4.7 comes with an elctric, that is enough, comes on anyway if the a/c is turned on, yadda, yadda.
All I know is the SC tuner is the only one easily changable, that dynos a gain, period. Others are permanent to get any gains. And the ones like the Jet chip, have showed no gain on the 4.7.
Based strictly on dyno results,
unless you go true duals, change the Y pipe, etc., there's really no gain. I wish you would have dynoed before and after your headers, cause, they say they don't do much objectively either on the 4.7 motor.
QC=Quad Cab, I guess this post didn't have my drive train 2 or 4, sorry.
2wd, LSD, 3.55rear end, behind the 5speed manual tranny, which ain't no sports car, but it ain't that bad.

Message: frontier you cant compare a full size truck with a mid sized truck. I know I raced one of those Xterras with the 265 HP engines and I beat him in my stock QC 4.7. the guy was cussing as I passed him waving. so maybe the 265 HP V-6 aint all that after all.

Message: its a v6, so its low end grunt wont even compete with that of a v8, even if the v8 has considerably less peak horse power, it will still drag the v6 in circles around a parking lot cause of a v8's low end torque, which you cant really match with any v6.
