Subject: How much weight can I carry? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2004 QC 4X4 auto sport with 265/70R/16 M&S Tires on 8" rims with 3.55 ratio.
Can I haul a pallet of stove pellets in my bed?
Pellets weigh 40 LBS each and the pallet holds 50 to 60 bags. Pellets are about 1 mile from home. Thanks for any input. (I have the roadmaster suspension kit installed).

Message: you can try at your own risk but the math says that is anywhere from 2000-2400 lbs. so i wouldnt try it, even at that short of a distance. payload for a qc is like 1300. i'd get a trailer.

Message: I cant say that sounds too safe, I would consider taking 2 or even 3 trips with that much weight, you could also rent a trailer or try and borrow one.

Message: Hey Wakely,
yea, I've actually carried several full loads of dirt/rocks dumped in the back of my dakota to fix some erosion problems at the bottom of a hill in my yard... needed the 4x4 to safely get to the bottom of the hill, because a dump truck or wheel-barrel wouldn't do.
I have no idea how heavy it was, but it bottomed out the suspension and squatted the tires a bit... It sounds like the load you are talking about would do the same. As long as you don't go to far, go slow and avoid bumps, you will probably be okay. That was about 70,000 miles ago and it didn't seem to mess anything up.
It was a white-knuckle drive, but the truck seems to have survived it okay. If you do decide to carry some weight like that, it is a good idea to make sure the tires are inflated properly. It's definitely at your own risk though. Since the pellets are only a mile or 2 away, it's probably not worth trying to do it all in one trip.
