Message: Just returned from upstate NY and thought I'd share this. Started the trip in NJ with a full tank. Made it to Warrensberg (Exit 24 on the Northway) before refueling. 18 mpg flat. All driving at 65 to 75 mph on interstate's. Refueled two days later before returning. 18.2 mpg in 4 to 10 degree weather with extended warmup and idling. Mostly short trips of 20 miles or so. Refueled agian in NJ and got 19.8 on the return trip. Prior to this trip I was getting 13.5 to 14.2 around town in average winter temps. 30 degrees or so. I wonder if the additives in the fuel make a difference as the gas in NY State doesn't have the MTBE like Jerseys. 4.7, 5speed stick, 3.55 lsd 04 club cab.

Message: local driving will always be a lower number than highway miles. also it depends on where you get your gas and what octane you get. I know with me and I am sure most on here has gotten a bad tank of gas that ran through their truck like water through a strainer. in my dak I think my last trip I got almost mid 20's MPG interstate . local driving I live 2 miles from work and after 5 days to and from work I can use a half tank of gas.
in the end it depends on to many varables. of gas weather (ie temp, head wind, so on.) tire pressure, so on and so forth. so I say MPG will always fluxuate. one day yo uwill get great gas milage and another day you think you have a hole in your tank.

Message: I guess what really suprised me was the local milage I got in Saranac NY. I like to put my foot in it and it was quite cold. My tires are OEM 245/16 Goodyears and I'm carefull to run 35psi and rotate every other oil change. My bed has a Rhino Liner, which adds weight and we had a couple hundred lbs of luggage and 3 passengers. There is a nine mile hill (up) between Keene and the Cascades that just begs for a wide open throttle (weather permitting). By the way, there isn't a lot of snow in the adirondack park yet but the lsd had no problem getting up to my property.
