Subject: Fluctuating Idle IP: Logged
Message: I recently got my 97 Dak Sport Club 5.2. It almost immediately needed a tune-up (wires, plugs, etc.) because of very rough running.Then it ran great. Now the idle sometimes fluctuates between 6-700 (good) to 1100 or so when in park. This happens when I first start it or after it's been running and I put it in park. It may even race a little when stopped in Drive. Other times it's fine and the idle goes to 6-700 perfectly.
Should I accept this or have it tweaked by the dealership (if they can duplicate it)? The truck has 38000 miles and generally runs great (acceleration) and looks even better.

Message: Hey Gap Pal;
I had the same problem with my 98 3.9. I had a tune up done on it and it still continued to have problems, like the ones that you are describing. I took it to the dealer several times and they had no idea. I gave up on it and accepted it until one day when I was cleaning the engine compartment out and I noticed that on the pass. side of the intake there was a open vaccuum inlet. I looked down and saw that there was a plug that was supposed to go on in because it was resting against the valve cover. As soon as I put it back on and drove it for a little while it stopped having any problems. You may want to check this I am not sure if this is common but it is worth a shot.
Good luck;
Rich

Message: I haven't done any "Mods." This has been going on now for about a week. I bought the truck a week and a half ago. Everything about this truck is great. I love it. But this "idling" problem is driving me nuts. I figure a nice vehicle like this shoud run great. Anyways, I'm watching it closely through this weekend. And if it gets more pronounced or even continues, I'll be going back to the dealer. Which is inconvenient because it's like 50 miles away. And I know they can't spot things that easily (duplicate). But I did find a loose hose not attached to it's snap-in holder. The hose was resting on the block. We'll see.
If you saw this truck you would know why I really need to have it running the best.
Thanks.
