Subject: y-pipe= NO CATS!?!?!
IP: Logged

Message:
I was wondering if anyone knew a good/cheap place to buy a performance y-pipe for an 01 RT???

I want to remove the two precats and put in a high flow third cat....CAN THIS BE DONE WITHOUT TRIPPING MIL'S??????????

The y-pipe needs to have the O2 sensor bungs on it and I would like 3" pipes into a 3" collector for the high flow cat.......I have seen prices as high as $300 and that is WAY too much....

Please help?!

Flowmaster makes a Y pipe, I used to have one on my truck before I went to true duals. As long as you put the 2 downstream sensors, downstream of the high flow cat it should work. I don't know if it will pass emission testing though. Or you could get two o2 Simm boxes from Thefastman and then you don't have to worry about the downstream sensors anymore, thats what I did.
Your muffler shop can just weld the bungs where ever they are needed if you want to go that route.

Hope this helps ya...

Under the federal (not state) emissions laws it is a crime to change the configuration of the cats.

I hear ya.

I was *just* about to order GS motorsports true duals, but discovered that here in Virginia my Dak will not pass inspections if I do so.

I apparently have to go with a cat-back system. That really sucks.

The local muffler shop recommends flowmaster 40s, but I've read by many that they are too loud. What mufflers, then, would provide a good throaty sound yet not be ridiculously loud in the cockpit at highway speed?

Thanks.

well if you have mudders on you truck you shouldn't be able to hear it. I have swamper radials on mine with no muffler, just one cat, and i still can't hear my truck over the tires. and the tires aren't all that loud either. i have a 5.2L
