Message: Since you asked.
I arrived at that conclusion like this:
1. Experience with different brands of gas in many vehicles over many years.
2. Chevron gas is delivered in Chevron tankers that come from Chevron storage and pumping stations.
3. Their gas costs more, but there's a "chain of costody". I know where it's been, what's in it (or, more importantly, what's not in it), and the quality seems consistent.
I can't say that about any other brand of gas in my neck of the woods, so that's what I buy. For those reasons, it's also what I recommend to anyone who asks what kind of gas to buy.
That's also why my engine is so happy.
If you're looking for performance boost by changing to a particular brand of gas, your "butt dyno" is gonna be awfully disappointed. The key is to use whatever brand of gas gives you consistent, reliable performance.
Since you asked.

for an article similar to this question.
Most fuel in your area probably comes from the same refinery and through the same pipeline--the only difference between most brands are the brand-specific additives which are added, and these typically are a very small percentage of the total volume of the gas.
Gasoline is a commodity product, and the various brands spend a lot of money creating an illusion of differentiation from their competitors. SteveJ above makes a good case for being happy with Chevron, and others probably have similar loyalties. However, how many of us have done "blind tests" where we attempted to tell the performance difference between tanks of gas without knowing where they were bought? The brand probably has more to do with keeping the driver happy than with actually burning differently in the motor.

I live in toledo and we have 2 refineries BP and SUN and Marathon and Shell have tanker fuel depots in the area and several others within an hour drive ( my bro-in-law works for Marathon in the corporate office) ONLY the independent stations buy from wherever, the rest are fueled from tankers with the corporate name on the side. Marathon owns 4 company brands that most do not realize are marathon indies. Starvin Marvins, Bonded, Gastown, and, oh heck right now I cant remember who the other one is. As far as each and every gas station getting thier gas from the same place that is just another one of those big URBAN LEGENDS that just ain't true.
