Message: Easy and well worth the effort. All your accessories, your tranny, etc. will bolt right up. On your '97 you can use the same fuel injectors. Make sure you get a '96 and up flexplate and make sure you have a 360 harmonic balancer to keep your balance straight (flexplates are only $30 new and balancers are around $100).
I'd recommend a '97 Ram 360 pcm to get the best performance.

Message: I'm thinking about trying to swap the 360 in my '99 Durango and the 318 in my '98 Dakota around. The Dakota is a 5 speed and I'm wondering if I could simply change the motors and computers around and that work or not. Does anyone know if the 5 speed Dakotas computer would work right when bolted up to an automatic transmission in the Durango? Also, is there anything else I would run into or would it just simply be pull the motors from each and swap them around?

Message: Christian86: If you get lucky, the 360 you pick up will have a balancer and flexplate on it. You can also get those used. I'd get those, do the swap, make sure everything runs, then swap in the 360 pcm. PCM's are about $350.
CraiginTenn: Swap the motors. You'll need to put a pilot bearing in the crank on the 360 so it will take a manual tranny (and you'll need to remove the one in the 318 to get it in your Durango).
You'll need a 318 flexplate to put that motor in your Durango. $25 or so. You'll need a 360 flywheel to put that in your Dakota. Now that is a more expensive proposition. If you can't find on in a junkyard, they run around $400 from the dealer. The 360 Magnum 5-speed was only available in Ram 2500 and 3500's from 94 to '02. There weren't a ton of them built.
PCM's aren't as friendly as '97's. I'd leave the Durango pcm alone, let it run the 318. You could send us your '98 318 Dak pcm and let us flash it for a five-speed tranny.

Message: I've also heard that stroker makes a setup that can be stuffed into a dakota, i dont want it for racing, just power and towing, as well as be able to turn 40inch tires after my solid axle swap is finished..., any more suggestions?
