This is probably a dumb idea or someone has already done it.

Has anyone ever tried to use a carburetor as a throttle body? I'm looking at this more from the point of retro-styling than performance. Nothing like a tunnel ram sticking out of the hood with a couple of Holleys on it and the appearance of a couple Holley TB's just don't do it for me.

Like I said, maybe it's been done and everyone has seen it, but I'm not into reading all the latest hot rodding mags.

haven't seen it done but, who knows. i like that idea. the only problem i could see would be possibly loosing vacuum through the idle bleed ports on the carb body. maybe have to plug everything up. then figure a way to munt the TPS.

Idle air control and tps are two of the biggest problems. Mounting the tps on carbs would ruin the look, but I think I might be able to get around that. No sure about the IAC.

I was also thinking that converting from tbi to mpi would be easier if you could keep the original tb, but that's sort of a different subject.

I haven't given this a lot of thought, so I'm just looking for some ideas and feedback.

one thought, the tps could be linear and connected to the linkage instead of rotary(stock). i didn't think about the IAC. HMMMMMM!

How about just connecting the tps to a bellcrank and linking the bellcrank to the trottle linkage? I'm also now thinking that the IAC could be machined into the back of a tunnel ram or a spacer on just about any manifold.

This is sounding to easy, there must be a problem some where.

well, the IAC has to bring air around the butterflies when they are in the closed/idle position. so the passage has to be from above the buterflies to below, so i don't think in the manifold would work. now maybe you could fit an IAC in one of the bowls on the "fake" 4 bbl carbs and machine an opening in the throat of the carb to below the butterflies(possibly using the idle circuit already in the carb).

disregard my above post.
the IAC is for cold start right? just use a manual choke on the carb. i bet that would work.

The manifold is certainly below the throttle plates and you could easily bring air from above. Your idea does have some merit, however.

You don't need the IAC at all!!!

You can get a connection to go in place of the IAC that plugs into the wiring harness and it fools the computer into thinking the IAC is working. Then you just adjust the idle the old fashioned way-with the throttle plates. This works with throttle bodys too and it gets rid of the problem of the engine taking so long to come back to an idle.

Call KRC Performance at 1-321-635-8866 or go to www.krcperformance.com and they can tell you how to go about bypassing the IAC.

Thanks, one sensor/control down and two to go. definately more easy than trying to make IAC work. The MAP should be zero problem.

Wouldn't it be possible to come up with a linier POT to replace the typical rotary type found in most TPS's?

Scroll down to part# 377400. It's a remote TPS mount. Naturally, it has a GM sensor, but it's a great example.

Thanks, but for $244 I'll figure out how to remote a stock sensor thru an intermediate bellcrank.

The "example" wasn't very clear. I had already thought about the remote tps in my third post.

Right now I'm trying to find a tunnel ram setup for the small block. I'm not sure who has made one in the past. Probably Weiand. Still looking.

Btw, P/N 1995 is not quite the one I'm looking for. I believe that there was one with longer runners.

Here's a nice setup for a BB. Adding the bongs wouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, BB or SB?????
