Superchips is doing their final testing on the 4.7L application this week. I just got an email from them asking me if I could bring my truck over this week for approx. 8 hrs of testing. I live about 28 miles from them here in Florida.

A 4.7L application is just around the corner guys.

Does anyone know if it will work very well with the H.O. cams.

(yes I know it is made for a stock motor)

it will work great with ho cams.
when your cams started bringing in more air, the computer automaticaly started bring in more fuel to keep the ratio at a steady 14.0 to 1 (off the top of my head) same programing but more fuel coming in cause more air was coming in. now with the chip, the computer will be putting even more fuel in cause it's told to hit 12.5 to 1 and waalaa, you have more power. MORE POWER.

That sound great! Do you know if it removes the speed limiter?

I wonder if the 4.7 being the top V-8 offering in the 2004-up Dakotas woke the guys at Superchips up? I, for one, am grateful. Mopar Performance has made us feel like orphans.

They will be released next week.

They used my truck as a test vehicle in the final testing of the 4.7L version yesterday and chose to make some additional changes to the parameters based on the results but they are still on target for next weeks release of the 4.7L units.

FYI, they had a guy come in with all the 4.7L bolt-ons (TB, cold-air intake, headers, exhaust, and so on) and the Superchip program did not offer him much over what his bolt-ons were already giving him.

They are not offering anything at this time for a motor upgraded with HO cams. They are concentrating on just getting a 4.7L unit out ASAP. I mentioned that I was planning on getting HO cams within the next couple of weeks but was waiting on the Superchips programmer and I was told that the cams would significantly alter the paramters from what is currently offered in the unit being released next week. That is something they might address later and offer upgrades to at a later date.

On that note...those of you sporting HO cams might wanna consider showing an interest in a Superchips programmer with HO cam parameters and those of us with HO cams should be offering our trucks up as test vehicles so they can rework the parameters for a new upgrade.

FLDak, I am over here in Cocoa by the Space Center.

Sure thing. Those guys over at Superships are great. I showed up there a few minutes after 8am and met with Ken who gave me a brief overview of what they were doing with the 4.7L units and where they were on the testing so far.

From there we loaded up in my truck and drove over to Enterprise Rental where Superchips footed the bill on a 2004 Jeep Liberty rental. Nice li'l 3.7L vehicle but a far cry from the 4.7L I just climbed out of. Anyway, he told me where all the big stores and the mall was, where the good eating places where and told me to be back around 4:30pm.

I showed up after Xmas shopping like a woman for 8 hours (my wife would have been proud) and one of the techs told me what they did and that they found some interesting numbers they had not encountered in previous test and were going to change some parameters prior to releasing it next week. Anyway, thats my tale.

Hey thanks for all the positive comments!!!
Well I guess I better wait to hear how good this programmer works before I buy one. Maybe I should wait for a upgraded version. Sorry guys but Cocoa is a long ways from my house, but if I do get over to that side of the state I may have to pay them a visit.
Should be getting my underdrive pulley and new exhaust tips on soon. Then I'm going to order some o2 Simms from Thefastman and see about getting rid of these precats.

Later...

The h.o. cams are very mild cams, I sincerely doubt the programming they require varies much over the stock cams. Look at it this way, you have stock programmin now working just fine with the cams, why wouldn't you benefit from added fuel and timing? Now, if you had some radical cams, then you do need custom prgramming to benefit from them. I doubt the superchips techs are aware just how mild these cams are, and are assuming they would require more program changes then they actually do. I got h.o. cams and I'm going for it.

Pittdawg makes a good point about the mild nature of the HO cams. I dug up an old post, "Unbelivable(sic) price on HO cams" where CW posted the relative cam specs HO vs. stock. HO intake .500", stock .443"; HO exhaust .440", stock .429". No mention of duration differences.
