Subject: This REALLY BLOWS... sorta long. IP: Logged
Message: The past few weeks I have noticed that when I pull my truck down in gear, and ride a little ways like that, or when I give it absolute hell, it has been running a little on the warm side... Just a little to the LEFT of center, not too big a deal, but I wanted to know why. I also noticed that after I came home one night, that I was just a little bit lower in the overflow bottle. I thought that this might have been do to the fact that it has been a lot cooler lately, but between the 2 I thought that I should look into it. Especially due to the fact that my motor is making almost 400HP at 127,000 miles... I was suspecting a head gasket. I put the pressure tester on the rad for a few hours and started it up (I had lost a few psi on the gauge, down from 14) and found no white smoke or sweat smell from the exhaust. Good sign of not being a head gasket I thought.... Then I noticed a small puddle under the truck, that was last night so I had to wait untill this afternoon to dig into it. It started to look like the intake manifold gasket, which was replaced because of the belly pan being blown right b4 the supercharger install. Looked at it closer, and saw that it was not coming from there, but from around the crease between the timing cover and the block??????? Then I realized, that it pulls the water through the damn cover into the pump from the block.... That means that I have to pull the timing cover, and the crank pulley, radiator... blah blah blah, to do this job now.
So what do I do??? While Ive got it drained do I put the M1 on and TB? Should I do a cam?? Should I do all of that and RRers?? Should I bother to do ANY of that on a motor that has 127,000+ miles on it at all???????????? Should I put the wear and miles on a cam and RRers just to take the risk of blowing the motor shortly after? Taken care of, how much life DOES this motor have left it it anyway???
To make a long story short.... SH!T !!!

Message: Mopar sells a nice short block Magnum MPI 360 for around $1400. You could put all the performance parts from your old engine on it and have a nice running 360.

Message: Dakota52318,
I would check the Thermostate Housing, that was where mine was coming from. Radiator fluid took 2 routes. 1, along the passenger side above the valve cover and below the injectors. 2nd route, down the frontside passenger side.
If, you take that big plastic piece off where you can see your harmonic balancer, you will be able to see it on the front side.
The drip from this was towards the Bell Housing believe it or not. lol

Message: It wasnt really at all in question were it was coming from when I made the first post, I had taken all the brackets off and cleaned it up really good to see where it was coming from. I was just wondering how much work I should get into while I was there. I did end up buying the M1 and 53MM Fastman which will be here on 12/3 So I am looking very forward to getting it on.
Thanks A LOT though for the ideas.

Message: If you pull the timing cover, do the cam. Get one good for use with that S/C.
Pulling the cover is most of the work in swapping a cam on those engines.
