Subject: big block dakota. what front springs???

Message:
I have taken my 57 dodge pick up body and put it on to my 87 dakota frame for improved handling and brakes. I also removed the 2.2L 4 cyl. and put a 383 in its place, but with the extra weight in front the stock springs are not good enough. anybody with a big block dakota what springs did you use?? or anybody what springs should I use?

i would go for a like model year.

That 383 is gonna way about 100 lbs more than the 318, so i would try to loose a little weight off the front to counter balance it.

On mine, i removed so much crap, that my truck actually sat higher with the 400BB in it than the 3.9 V6... but my 400 is a little lighter than your 383 (25 lbs)

I don't know how much the dakota cab and front end weight is but the 57 cab is heavy I used fibre glass front end and the battery is moved alumininum rad, pullies and intake. I think I will look into aftermarket 318 dakota springs maybe I will find something with a different than stock spring rate.

wont hurt anything... just a little more bouncier if you cut more than one coil off. If you just cut one... you dont even notice.
