Message: upgrade how? convert to rear disc? up front I have crossdrilled and slotted rotors with EBC pads, and am impressed at the stopping power. I am trying to figure out how to convert to rear disc with factory parts, but there are Viper conversions as well as a rear disc kit available from Stainless Steel brake corp. the 2003 Dak R/T had rear disc, thats what I'm after, the only part I;ve found to be hard to get is the caliper mounting bracket, the rest, calipers, rotors and pads you can get for about 400.. The viper conversion is very expensive, totaling about $5k, the kit is like 3 and you have to supply the calipers pads and rotors... it basically gives the bracketry to put on the viper disc brake parts. a bit of over kill, unless its a all out drag or race truck, or if you just wanna pimp the viper parts behind your rims... it does require the R/T rims, or at least a 17 inch rim.....

Message: I have 18's all the way around, so whatever I do should fit. I have just dropped in a 390 stroker built to the max, 3.91 gears, and this thing just flat out freakin rocks the pavement. Tranny just started slippin though(STOCK).
Do you know if SSBC still makes the front upgrade kit? I know they have the rear conversion, and Stillen makes one that's about $1300. the costs a outrageous just to stop your vehicle.

Message: SSBC makes a kit for the front and back. Socaldakotas.com has a good deal on both.

Message: There's another company that makes rear disc conversions called TSM Manufacturing. I don't personally have any experience with them, but the November issue of four wheeler shows an install of one of their kits...I think on a GM, but their website lists a kit for the Dakota/Durango. The site is www.tsmmfg.com
Again, I have no experience with them, but before I read the article I'd never seen any other option for the Dakota beside the SSBC kit.
Hope this helps.

Message: I have had the SSBC rear disc conversion kit on for about a year, and it definitely helps with braking. The only thing is that it seems to have a chronic problem with the parking brake cable; it drags every now and then, making this bad metallic groaning sound, but it gets better or worse depending on the tension in the cable. It could just be mine doing that, as another guy in here, Mike, has one and from what he told me, he doesn't have that problem.
I'd recommend the kit.

Message: Should work. Do some research first, and spend some time studying applicable Service Manuals, to make sure what parts you need, and that all parts from the donor vehicle are compatible with your existing rear end, and that the disk/calipers assemblies will clear the wheels.
I did a similar thing with a '96 Nissan Pickup, installing rear disks from a Pathfinder. In that job, I needed the Pathfinder axle shafts, backing plates, bearing housing, special o-rings, and had to reconfigure the parking brake cables.
As you already know, there are rear disk conversion kits available for the Dakota. I don't have the links handy, but if you search the Dakota forums, you'll fins them.

Message: Excellent info on your site. I also would like to put disks on the rear of my 95 4wd. If any of you know if that 2003 would work or if there is axle change involed or what ever, that would also be great info. Thanks
