Message: Is your truck AWD? or 4WD? If thats confusing.....is it
always in 4 wheel? even at the track? Or is it part time
and you race in 2wd?

Message: because AWD are 4x4 but they are engaged in 4 wheel drive all the time. Which results in drive train loss......I also have a 4x4...have you ever thought about trying to convert it to a 2WD? Or do you live somewhere where you need 4wd? I would love to take my 4x4 components out and get a new transmission but i have had trouble finding people with information on doing this. Every one says "just sell your truck and buy a 2wd....This is not an easy task to just go out and do one day (paperwork, etc.) Have you thought about doing some angine work? Cams? Heads? Get a little more horspower in that beast of yours and you could smoke all 4 tires of the line HAHA! and then swith to 2wd! Lol, that probably isnt a reasonable idea but it sounds cool!

Message: dkota_rt - Retard? How about the transfer case? Do you have a 4wd? Because you know nothing about them! The transfer case is in fact attached to the 44re transmision in my truck. Your name is rt so i assume you have an rt. An rt is 2wd do you have a rear driveshaft?? I would say so! retard!

Message: 4x4,
I have owned many 4x4's, including a 2002 Dakota 4 x 4. If I remove my RT's rear drive shaft then I will have NO wheel drive. If you remove your 4x4 rear drive shaft, then you will have 2WD right?

Message: Why the hell would I just take out the 4x4 components and have a truck that can run 100+ and sit too high with a crappy suspension and have no handling... just waiting for the accident to happen?

Message: So your getting a new frame for it? What is the new setup consist
of? My 4x4 is lowered and handles great, so if i could remove
the 4x4 components it would be a little better.

Message: The front will be lowered 2" and 4" in the back. The front suspension on a 2wd is completely different than a 4wd. You have coils instead of torsion bars, and in the back the axle sits on top of the leafs, not underneath. I have mine lowered in the front as much as you can now, but the torsion bars and shocks available for the 4wd dont compare to the coils and shocks offered to the 2wd. It will never be a stable platform for the street, strip sure. But it just sits too high and is too heavy for the road. I will be going to 17s, and getting rid of the 75 series tires, and going to a 40-45, that will help a tremendous amount... you could do that on a 4x4, but it would look pretty gay. If you just took out the 4x4 components, sure there would an improvement, but not as much as lowering and going to coils and better shocks. You will also gain a little from the improvement in drivetrain loss. While its not a performance gain, I will be refinishing the frame while the body is off, a freshly painted satain black frame will look very nice. Poly bushings are going on as well as cal tracs and a rear sway bar w/ detachable links. Fatter bar in the front... water/air aftercooler... etc... Should be on the road in the spring, better be, want it done in time for cruzin OC, MD. I already have the new truck... just need to start work on it, maybe this weekend, gotta get it done sometime.

Message: What's your email? I find we have some in common. I race my
4x4 also and have a supercharger. I got mine lowered 5 in the
front and 4 in the rear and it rides awesome. I wish i could just
get some coils in the front now like your talking about. How
much you think your project is going to cost? And where are you
getting the frame from?
