Subject: Brakes won't release IP: Logged
Message: I have a 02, cc, 4x4, 4.7 with 77780 on it. The problem is that sometimes the brakes won't release and the pedal gets hard. The master cylinder has been replaced recently. Any ideas would be nice.

Message: You need to elaborate more on your problem. Does the truck pull to one side or another? Are you getting a burning smell? Can you hear/feel the brakes dragging? A hardened pedal is usually caused by a malfunctioning brake power booster or vacuum supply. Let us know what you find out.

Message: The truck doesn't pull at all. No smell this time around the last time it pulled to the left but that was about a month ago.Which was the last time it happened. It feels as though all four brakes are dragging. The truck will almost come to a comlpete stop going down hill, a very steep hill.

Message: Sounds like probable AIR in brake system ??
Try re bleading , drastically if necessary.
I.E. keep refilling master and pump out to
all 4 wheels , bleeding one at a time until
absolutely sure - no air in there..

Message: Sounds like the same problem I had a while back. I had to replace the rubber brake line by the tires. On my truck it was pulling to the left and when I felt the right front ream after I drove the truck for a few min it was almost to hot to touch. The left ream was fine. The brake hose cost about $17.00 and the problem was fixed.

Message: to me sounds as if the power booster is f'ed up. or possibly the calipers are hanging up. try this, its free.... Pep Boys auto does a free brake inspection, so long as you don't get any work done, you can get a free diagnostic, just be as specific with your problem as possible, and they might be able to find it....

Message: Hello I have a 02 slt 4.7 auto 2wd. My front brakes have locked up 2 times and I think I have an answer as what is going on. First my rear brakes only have about 5% braking and that puts 95% up front in heavy stop and go city driving they get hot and the pistons in the calipers stick. This happened yesterday in Chicago, let it cool for 45 mins and they release. I have 2 calipers at the parts store waiting to pick up.
As far as the rear brakes not working I'm going to by-pass the rear anti-locks I think that is the problem.

Message: Max, don't bother with a bleed. That is the dumbest theory I have heard. Air in the system won't cause your brakes to seize. If you did have internal hose damage, it would pull to that side.
That leaves you with a bad brake booster or possibly a proportioning valve. I have also seen an ABS relief valve malfunction and cause the same problem.
Lift the truck and spin each wheel and see how easily they free-spin. Some brake drag is normal. Start the truck and spin each wheel. Let us know the results.

Message: Get yourself a service manual and read it then do the break
job again. Because if they were working properly before you
replaced them you did soothing wrong.
