My buddy has a 2004 GMC Sierra reg cab 4.8L V-8. He claims it'll destroy my 2000 clubcab 4.7L. Now according to the GMC site, his truck is pushin 285hp@5600 and 295ft/lbs@4000. Dodge says mine is at 235hp@4600 and 295ft/lbs@3600. With my exhaust and intake, I'm pretty sure those numbers have changed, I was wonderin tho, how a race would pan out? He's always telling me that my truck sucks and he would destroy me in a race. I fig that he might beat me off the line, but I would win in the end. Altho, I dunno if I have a good understanding of that. Answers?

My father has one and the thing is ready to blow up at 5600 rpm..... my 5.2L would beat it! Then again I have some bolt on stuff changed.

It may come down to the gearing of your trucks depending on what type of race you are talking about. I would say it would be really close.

Well I was suprised when the GMC site said he's got 285 in that thing. I mean 4.7L and 4.8L dun sound like a big diff. I fig since the torque is about the same, and I know I've picked up some torque with my intake/exhaust combo, I fig'd I'd be able to take him. My truck is also gon be lighter than his, smaller, not as wide. Regardless, all my friends love my truck, and don't like his. Yea, one day I'll take him. Dodge vs. GMC, no competition!

Good story...there's this guy that lives down the street that has a Durango with a sweet sounding exhaust. Every time we see each other he's romping on the gas. Just this past Friday I'm heading down the expressway and I catch him at a light, first in line, side by side. We make eye contact and , of course, he's revin' it. I nod my head and tell him on green. Totally took him off the line and got ahead by 1 1/2 to 2 lengths. I couldn't pull any further and he couldn't gain. Good half mile between the lights and zero side streets, perfect. It was funny because neither of us is backing out, finally the old anti lock (sucks) comes into play at the light. He yells out I got lucky on the start let's do it again. Exact same thing. After the next couple of light we hit our neighborhood and he pulls up to my house to BS. He got a 2000 5.2L with a custom intake (drawing a blank) and exhaust (Flowmaster). I'm all stock, engine wise, but I really think I have an exceptional Dak.
PS My wife's 5.9L Durango walks all over my Dak whether it's her or myself behind the wheel.

read an article a while back they put a 4.8 chevy 1500 auto on a dyno and it put down 210 +-5 hp at the rear wheels.
You gotta ask yourself one question...That Thing Got A HEMI???

Yea, believe me I want to race him. I'm up in NE PA. 99% of the roads are 2 lane roads and theres no real place where I can race him at. Everything is really twisty and turny, altho there are a couple straight spots I can do it at. He likes to talk big tho, so I dunno if he'll be up for it. Oh and ?, f**k you man, haha. Good story tho.

Hey Germ, I knew that opening line would get your blood pumping! Kinda like racing. Not sure if you have a 4X4 or 2X4...if it's a 2 there's no doubt in my mind you'll take him.

I personally have not seen many chevy trucks with the 4.8L in them which tells me that they perform worse than the much more popular 5.3L which puts out 285hp (very good for a 5.3) but if the 4.8 put out the same why doesn't everybody have one?? I know the SSR has a 300hp 5.3 but the typical chevy truck does not have this engine and from what I have read, the SSR is a turd and a very large waste of money.

Haha, yea ? and my truck's a 4x4, gotta have that in the snow here, haha. And huh, I believe the 5.3L cranks out 295hp, but I might be mistaken.

4.8 5.3 doesn't matter... My dad has a 1wd silverado with the 5.3 and I have a 4wd with a 5.2 and I outrun him with my stock 3.55 gears and 35" tires.

5.3 was 285 now they are 295. The 4.8 was 270 now they are 285. 5.3 has more torque that's the real difference.

Once again I have fallen behind in keeping track of other trucks power ratings. I guess I must not consider GM a very big performance threat. 285 or 295hp still "like a knock" and not worth anyone's time unless you are a die hard GM fan and want something to park next to your Aztec!

what about the 6.0L v8?
my dad has an 01 silverado 2500hd cc 6.0L v8, flowmaster dual exhaust, k&n drop in, 4:10 anti spin 4x4.. he said his "real truck" would stomp my " toy truck" easily (00 cc 4x4 4.7L auto, 3:55 LSD stock except dynomax super turbo muffler and tps adjusted to .76v) I rode in it a few times and it dosent impress me much.. it feels slower than my dakota does (maybe because its bigger) what do yall' think?

You guys need to go read the curb weight on all those trucks. They out weigh the Dakota by 500 to 2500 lbs depending on which one your talking about. Equal torque... Advantage, Dakota. One of my friends has a 03 QC Hemi 4x4, 6500 LBS. My RC 4.7 AWD, 4000 LBS, will beat it every time. Granted I have a few mods, but I should beat it anyway. It takes alot of power to pull an extra 2500 lbs.

Hey Germ I have a 92 5.2 club cab 4x4 with 30 x 9.5 r 15 tires flowmaster cat back exahust and a k&n filter and my friend has a 98 GMC stepside ext. cab 350 sport 4x4 with true dual exhaust and k&n filter with a few other small mods. I take him off the line every time then we level off and stay neck and neck then I start to pull away then we hit 100 an his stupid governer kicks in dumb GMC crap so after that it is no contest because I have had my dakota at 110 and the speedomitor says 125 but the shaking is a little freaky. In conclusion go smoke him!

a 2500hd vs. a CC dak?he has a nicer truck,but you would beat him.why the hell would you race?next thing im gonna see are two idiots in dump trucks racing,NO POINT!and the 4.8,5.3.and 6.0 are all very good engines they come alive in the aftermarket stuff.all those engine models are the "little brothers" of the LS-1.and alot of the performance parts are interchangable.
if you make it more fair,a CC dak with 4.7,and a 1500 reg cab chevy with 4.8 or 5.3,same gears,equally modded,the chevy will walk all over your dodge.im saying this after owning an 01 4.7 and an 02 r/t,my dad now drives the r/t and ive moved on to a 35th anniversary z28.
but if you want to be stupid and compare apples to oranges,i will race you in your CC 4x4 4.7 dak with my Z28.i will race you for titles how bout that?i will even give you a 1sec head start!
