Why would DC make the R/T with a smaller engine? 5.7 instead of the 5.9. Does the new 4.7's have a disadvantage? What's the deal???

I was talking to a salesman las t night about the new Dakota. He's heard rumors of the 5.7, but nothing definate. And he's heard nothing of a diesel.

The 5.7 is a 345hp Hemi. The 5.9 is a 250hp Magnum. Makes the choice pretty easy, doesn't it?? I think I'd go with the smaller engine.

Next dakota R/T is going to be a 6.1L supercharged hemi similar to the 5.7 in the rams now.

i doubt that. they might eventually get the same hemi setup as the ram and durango, but dont expect a 6.1 supercharged hot rod dakota. can you say srt-10 killer?

i'm with you, id love to see dodge make a dakota like that. if they did i'd imagine it would wear the SRT badge, since that's what they seem to be going to and getting rid of the r/t. just seems like a dakota like that would steal the sales of the srt-10 ram. i can't imagine chrysler beating another one of their high end products, but stranger things have happened.
if they make it, lets go test drive one. we could each buy a new rear tire for it when we're done

From the info I have seen from DCX, they will be
offering two v8's the 4.7 and the 4.7ho havent
seen or heard any rumors about dumping a hemi
into it as of yet.

The hemi won't be in a Dakota anytime soon, but the 4.7L High Output WILL be, eventually. You can order the regular 4.7 in the SLT and Laramie Dakotas now, but the HO is a few months away. The HO will NOT be available with a 6-speed, but the regular 4.7L will be :-).
