Subject: TB Spacers, again IP: Logged
Message: Hey I was doin some research on the TB spacer debate. I took it upon myself to email Airaid. This is what I got back:
Jeremy,
Thanks for the inquiry; the spacers are designed as part
throttle torque producers. They work off-idle to about 2500 rpm, anytime
you are at part throttle in that rpm range the spacer will spin the air
charge therefore speeding up the velocity of the air charge so it
atomizes with the feel better. At those rpm ranges what you will feel is
torque; averages are usually 15-20 ft lbs. Fuel efficiency is possible
with the spacer, the average is 1-2 extra mpg.
^Does that sound right? I sent them another email asking for a dyno sheet to show their results with and without the TB spacer. I'll keep you guys posted on what they tell me next.

Message: How do they keep this spinning effect intact as the air moves through the intake manifold runners to the combustion chamber? TB spacers are snake oil for our trucks. We are bottom feeders. The fuel isn't injected at the TB, if it was, then their device might work.

Message: I dunno, this is just what they told me, lol. I asked em for a dyno sheet and so far have gotten no response.

Message: Throttle body spacers on a port injected engine produce no positive results. They will not produce a dyno sheet unless it it bogus, you need an independent third party to do the testing, one that has no stake in the results. Their explanation of spinning air would in itself cause the fuel to seperate from the air because of centrifugal force. Save your money and put it toward a useful modification.

Message: Some have proven with a dyno that they don't work, so there you go. Go buy a nice muffler instead.

Message: Everybody. Let's end this TB spacer speculation, now! The money that you would spend on one of those should go into a new TB. I checked my local Dodge dealer for a price on a V8 TB and they're only $230. w/o sensors! Hey man, that's not too bad! And if a spacer that raised your TB an inch higher was supposed to raise performance, then why not make 'em a foot tall? Yeah, you'd really be "swirling" up the air now!! Relf.
