Subject: What else? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2003 Quad Cab w/ the 5.9L. I have the stock 3.55 gears, but I have installed K&N Gen II filter, Gibson headers along with the Dual Sport exhaust. I will be installing ACCEL Super Coil, Accel Distributor Cap & Rotor, MSD 8.5mm Wires, new plugs, and Low Temp Thermostat. So whats else? Which of the programmers is better or should I go the power module way? Any help would be helpful. Thanks...

Message: I used a Hypertech on my '01 5.9. There are two power levels - 89 octane and 91 octane. I set mine to 89. Made a huge differance in drivability and perceived power. Made a slight improvement in fuel mileage. Best money I've spent.
I tried the 91 octane level. Made a slight improvement in perceived power over the 89 level. Mileage went to hell. With the much worse efficiency and increased fuel cost, I didn't think it was worth the slight improvement.
You might also consider better rear gears, depending on how you drive the truck. Can often be the best bang for the buck. Do a search about that, plenty of discussions.
