Subject: RE: Question for Ian at Truckin-suspension IP: Logged
Message: Well the kit is still wrong, I just installed a 6.5 in truckin kit in May of 2004, and have put 160 miles on my truck with only 3 allignments, before the stress from the brackets caused the tabs on my 3rd member and the mount on the trans to brake off. So now I am working with truckin to resolve the problem, and so far I am not impressed. I will keep you posted and let you know what happens. Oh and by the way I own a performance and off road shop, so I know how to install a lift.
any questions? email autojosh@earthlink.net

Message: I have the truckin suspension 9.5 inch lift on my 98 dakota, it's been on for at least 8 months (early 05 I think)and have put a couple thousand miles on it(at least 2) and I haven't had to do crap to my rig. I run 33's and have jumped the truck a couple of times without any failures. I had the kit installed by Chuck's Trucks in Orlando,FL and he did do some upgrades to the kit, but nothing major. He did have a concern about the huge drop steering bracket giving slop, but the steering has been good so far.
Chucks put on a skidplate to connect the front and rear lower control arm mounting brackets, and put on latteral strut bars from the drop bracket that now form a cradle back to the transfercase crossmember. Both of those modifications stop all the brackets from moving seperately, which is why the allignment would go out. Any shop should know that, it's pretty obvious individually mounted pieces aren't going to work together to hold alignment, they must be connected.
It cost me about 2,300 for the install and upgrades including new Pro Comp tires. The kit was another 2,800 but my truck sure looks good.
I don't know how to post pictures but I have a scanner so if someone tells me I'll show you guys my truck with the braces and skid plate.
Also, I have detroit lockers and 4.10 gears the truck will smoke tires and does 90 with the 3.9 even lifted with 33s.But you got to pay If you want to play, without your truck falling apart anyway.
Nothing you buy aftermarket is perfect but this kit isn't bad. My e-brake still works all anti-sway bars are still used, and the ride quality and steering are stock.
I wanted to tell everyone who reads how crappy Knobby's truck turned out that mines has been fine.
I'll tell you guys though, if I had been given crap about the kit not working after I bought it and they installed it. I would buy a plan ticket fly to where ever their shop is and deffinately needed bail money!
