has anyone done any research on swapping in a solid axle? i know 4 wheel and off road did a big $ quad with the help of oru a couple of years back so it can be done. i don't have that kind of $ so i started looking around and found that an early bronco front axle is pretty much the same width as the dak ifs, plus the diff is on the correct side. this would eliminate the need for a custom axle. i took some rough measurements and it looks like the coil spring, radius arms would be pretty easy, i'm not sure about the track bar. i have to find a competant shop to help with this as i want it to ride and drive nice.i'll post more info when i get it. btw 71-77 broncos came w/ dana 44 fronts, disc brakes didn't appear until 76 but swapping out the drums wouldn't be a problem.

Ok, go to this address:

That is a truck with the Bronco axles swapped in.

It's probably a biznich to get that thing in there in the end...and i wonder if it would even be possible with Rack & Pinion, but he did it to his so there is a chance it could work. Though he doesn't have R&P. I would suggest the disc brakes...getting kits can actually be quite expensive, and it's far more worth it to find an axle with the disc already there.

Hope that helps...and if you do it...keep us posted!

Solid Axle Swap Directions

PS If you do have R&P steering, who cares. Just swap it for a heavier steering box and drag link off of a jeep!
