I have a '92 ext. cab 3.9 4x4. I take it off-road fairly often and am disgusted by its preformance, mostly in sandy wooded areas. I know that most of my problem is that it's got road tires on it, but my big problem is wheel hop and front end clearance. I'm already planning on 235s instead of the 215s, cranking up the t-bars and replacing and adding skid plates, so the ground clearance shouldn't be much of an issue. To end the wheel hop in sand though, and firm up the ride, what might be a decent low-budget shock to use? I can handle a 1965 1-ton type ride. I want off road traction.

cranking the t-bars should add some stiffness also
and you should be able to get omething bigger than 235s, thats what i got on my 90 and im thinking i can go bigger

Is it soft sand, do you air down your tires?

You should probably air down your tires in all sand...i do when i go out to the local dunes, i usually go down to 10-13 psi.

It is pretty soft sand, but I don't air down my tires because 1, it's about 5 miles or better on the freeway to get there and 2, I usually only start there and end up in the woods where the ground is solid, besides the fact that I don't want to run the risk or messing up my aluminum wheels. The 235s will get steelies. Would it hop simply because the tires are full?
