I think both is about $1,000 ... I haven't priced it reciently. and I can't remember for sure.

Front and rear gears were $589 without the overhaul kits, $783 with the overhaul kits, all from Randy's Ring & Pinion. Overhaul kits include bearings, crush sleeves, shims, etc. Install should be somewhere between $500-$800...I won't have a firm estimate on install until Monday when the shop takes a look at the truck. I'm estimating on that install price range...the shop I'm taking it to did a rough estimate for $1500-$1600 parts and labor about 3 months ago, but he's just doing labor now.

The 3.92 gears is a 40 dollar factory option,Im sure glad I spent that extra 40 bucks when I bought my truck!

xplikt - it's about a 4.5 percent difference. You've got the advantage of having all kinds of gears available since you'd only have to buy for the rear end. Because of the Chrysler 8 inch up front, I had to stick with factory-available gear ratios since nobody makes any other ratios yet.
And Viper, yes I know it's only a $40 option...don't remind me! Unfortunately I needed the truck in a hurry so I couldn't order one exactly like I wanted. Every V8 Dakota I saw on the dealers lots had the 3.55 gears. But I look at it this way...I got almost $4000 off sticker by buying off the lot, so I guess I can't complain too much.
