Subject: Mopar Computer for 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: Hi Guys,
I have a 2000 QC 5.9 4x4 and I have been awaiting a mopar computer, but I have been told that Mopar has discontinued their research on the 4x4 chip.
Since there is a 2000 2x4 chip out, does anyone know if I can use it in a 4x4. My buddy is running a 2x4 in his 1998 4x4 ram without any problems, but im wondering if there is anything in the newer dodges that might cause a problem.
Thanks for your help.

Message: I'm in the same boat. Hell, I even called Mopar, and asked them WTF?!? Their response was that they had no plans of continuing R&D of Mopar PCMs.
So, with that being said, I started asking around about putting the 4x2 PCM into my 4x4. Nobody really seems to be able to answer this though.
One response was that the 4x2 PCM wouldn't take the VIN number flash....because the VIN would indicate a 4x4. And another response was, "I have heard of people using the 4X2 PCM in a 4X4 with no problems. If you tow with it you want to make sure your not "pinging" under load."
One for...one against. No idea. And I'd hate to spend the money on a MP PCM, and then not be able to use it.

Message: Well, Ive been doing some research and it seems that a 2000 4x2 Mopar pcm will work in a 2000 4x4. Different years are not compatable though. The jury is still out on what vin# needs to be flashed in, whether it has to be a 4x2 vin, or if you can use your actual 4x4 vin. It also seems that you can run the PCM without flashing it, but that you will have to stare at the ABS dummy light until you do. Check out www.dodgetrucks.org and do a search for related posts. I found at least 11 threads.
I am also working out a deal for a PCM and I am going to try it without flashing it, so Ill keep you posted.

Message: From everything I've read, skip the headaches
with wondering if you can swap PCMs, just get
your's reprogrammed by ASE:

Several people on this site appear to have had
excellent results with them. I will be doing it
soon also (once I drop below my yearly average
quota for truck toy expenses . . .)
