Subject: 285/75/16 tires on stock 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. I cuurently have the stock rims and tires but today I ordered some of the bandit rims from afxwheels.com. I am looking at the new Nitto Terra Grappler tires to match with these rims.....my question is this will the 285/75/16's fit with no rub? Or should I stick with the 265/75/16's? Anyone have a set of 285's on their truck? Any advice would be appreciated.

Message: You'll get rub with 265/75-16 as well. 265/70-16 is really about as big as you can go. I test fit a 265/75-16 on my 2002 Dak Quad Cab 4x4 and it rubbed at full-lock, on any stiff bumps.
I just bought BFG All Terrain TA tires in 265/70-16, same as stock size. Cost me $610 shipped from 4wheelparts.

Message: 265/75/16 fit my 2001 QC 4x4 no problem
I have NEVER had any rubbing (I haul a$$
off road, jumps, bumps, dips, etc, etc, etc...
I'd bet that the 285s might fit, they are not much
wider or taller: 1.2 inches taller, 0.8 inches
wider . . . you may just have to "trim" ???
(see all the posts on 33x12.50s !)
Note: Some peoples Torsion bars are set low from
the factory. Myne were, and I set them to
spec according to the factory shop manual
before I bought my tires . . . Pirelli
Scorpions, awesome offroad, snow, mud, ice,
rock crawling, blasting up sandy washes,
AND AWESOME ONROAD TOO !
I love stuffing Beemers in the twisties !

Message: A lot will depend on the back spacing of the wheels you use. I have 265/75/16 Pro-Comp A/T's on 16x8 eagle 1469's, and because the back space is 4.5 instead of the factory 5.5, the tires rub in the front, but not on the frame.

Message: I know more than 1 person who was running 275/70 16's on the factory 16x8 rims with only a very small amount of rubbing at full turn. I ran 32x11.50 15's on the factory 15x7 rims with no rubbing before my lift.

Message: Hey Ebolavirs,
Found this doing a search and was wondering if you ever ended up getting the Nitto 285/75/16. This is the same tire I want to get on a new set of aftermarket 16" rims with the stock 4x4 height. If you did get them was there any rubbing and what did you do to stop it. Also what are the specs. on the 16" rims you put these tires on. If you have any pics with them on, can you post them. Thanks for the help.

Message: Just go in to the parts counter at the dealership
and order one.
(about $80 ??? ouch ! )
I always buy the FSM for all my vehicles.
Explaining how the FSM specs the correct T-Bar
adjustment without detailed pictures would be
somewhat difficult. If you were under your truck
with a measuring tape and a telephone I could probably explain it ...
Yes, they fit fine. I'm just about at 30K miles on my Pirelli's, and thinking about replacing them with 285/75/16s or 305/70/16s .... hehehehe
(my T-Bars are still at the factory ride height,
so I assume I can crank them a little more if I
need to)

Message: if my truck were stock i would not put those tires on it. you're going to rub all over the place. i have the 285/75/16 on my truck with 3" body lift and they're pretty close. there's no way i could have got them on before.
