Subject: torsion bar sag??
IP: Logged

Message:
I have had my torsion bars cranked for about 2 years and now that my truck has 90 thousand miles they are starting to sag. I was wondering of anyone had rotated there torsion bars to increese the spring rate again??

ie: if you look at where the torsion bars go onto the "pork chop" you will see that they fit into a 5 or 6 sided hole. If you mark the side of the bar that is facing the ground, then remove the bar from the truck and reinstall it with the mark facing away from the ground, it seems like you would have a stiffer spring rate.

it is like bending a metal ruler. Once it has a slight bend and cant support the weight, you can flip it over and it will support the weight.

sorry for the long post, I just wanted some input before I take the bars off my truck.

tried on mine... couldn't get the bar out of the perverbial 'pork chop' =) plus it was cold and i didn't want to mess around with it anymore, so i gave up and cranked them back as they were. i have heard of it being done though.

If your torsion bars have weakened to the point that you need to remove one end and give it a sixth of a turn to achieve the same ride height, it’s time to replace them. It’s in essence a twisting spring. It’ll only twist so far before it reaches a point where it no longer functions as a SPRING. It will just snap when enough force is exerted on it. I’m sure if you took it to any reputable repair shop and ask them to make that change, they will refuse for liability reasons.
