Subject: 2" body lift IP: Logged
Message: Just found out from Performance Accessories that they are not going to make a 2" body lift for the newer daks. Those of you who have installed the 3" lift, is it possible to cut down the lift 1" so it will be a 2" body lift?

Message: Why would you only want a 2 inch? You can run 32x11.50's with no lift but need at least 3 inches to go to 33x12.50's. Just wondering.
It would be a pain in the butt to try and cut down the 3 inch lift. You would have to make sure that the cut side of the blocks were completely level, the bolts would be too long, the bumper brackets would not work, etc.

Message: I used to not like body lifts much at all. I do not like them on GM vehicles. I love it on my Dak. No complaints at all. I have enough room for 33's, no where neer the price of a susp lift, and can be taken back to stock at anytime relatively easy, unlike most susp lifts. Once you see the blocks, they arent as high as you would think.

Is it a fairly simple one Saturday install for the backyard mechanic? And maybe an extra set of hands?

Message: Performance Accessories. Now cutting or welding other than the extension for the 4x4 shifter. If you have the dash mounted shifter then you dont have to worry about it.
Comes with all the parts you need. Good set of hands is nice. Basic hand tools, 19mm, 18mm, and down metric and SAE sockets, torque wrench, jack, and jack stands. Can be done in a day no problem but allow yourself 2 just so that you can take your time if you need to.

Message: Just installed the lift this weekend! Awesome! Hawkeye, did you have any problems with the front bumper brackets? My front bumper is angled slightly down in the front, and each corner is pointing so far up they rub against the body. I couldn't adjust the bumper any more so it lines up right.

Message: I think my bumper was a little tweaked from the factory. I try a little tweaking of my own and try to straighten it out. Sorry for all the questions Hawkeye it's just your truck and mine have similar setup's. Do your 33's rub at all? I'm thinking of getting the 305x70x16 Xterrains but with no backspaceing on the stock wheels, I don't know if they will rub. Have you driven the Xterrains on ice or hard packed snow? How were they? Once again sorry for all the questions. :)

Message: I think they do make a kit with an extension for the 5 speed. Mine is an auto so I cant say for sure.
The 305x70x16s should be fine. I had just a tiny bit of rubbing on the bottom back corner of the plastic on the front bumper when the tires are in abot mid turn. Just trimmed a little and that pretty much took care of it. Wasnt anything serious. As long as your stock rims are the 16x8's you should be ok, if anything, they might rub just a tad on the frame a full turn, but thats about it. Dont get too much snow and ice here in Florida. I would guess that in snow they would do pretty good, not sure about the ice. I do know that the Pro Comp All Terrains are supposed to be extremely good in snow and ice. Wife has them on her 4x4 Durango and they do great on the road, especially when wet, and do really well off road as well in all but the really bad stuff.

Message: Hey Hawkeye, you have an pics of what it looks like under the hood. I'm wondering if my intake would need to be changed a bit to accomodate the 3" bodylift.
Also, did you get any "gap gaurds" to fill in the gap between the bed and the frame in the wheel wells?
Thanks.

i have a 5 speed and the only ext i got was for the 4wd shifter. my dak is also a 98'. i guess you could go to local hardware store and find a piece of stock the same size as your shifter shaft. i left mine where it was at.i like the shifter being low (i dont hit volume button on stereo)

Message: Torque, what intake do you have? I have the 4" Z-tube on mine. With the body lift, the big 9" cone filter just barely rests on the wheel well. It isn't forced against anything, just rests on it.

Message: mike-
when you installed the shifter after the lift were you able to put the shift boot back on? I tried to bend my like the instructions said but it wouldn't budge. I have had it installed for a while without the boot because the shifter won't go in to second or fourth. How did you do yours?

It's a home brew setup that has gone thru about 3 revisions. The latest has the stock air hat back on. I got tired of the noise when it had the 90 degree elbow.
I just saw some pics of, I think it was "Dan's" truck. It was in a pic with Hawkeye's parked next to it. I noticed he has the gap gaurds. Any idea what those cost?

Message: I don't forsee any problems with your intake setup. You might just have to rotate the filter up a little so it's not pointing down so far. I got the gap gaurds from 4wheelparts for $51. Worth it if you don't want all that mud and grime in the engine compartment from off roading. Where abouts are you in Colorado? I'm up in Northglenn.

Message: I don't think the lift should be any problem hauling heavy loads. I'm not sure about the six foot bed on your truck, but on my QC with the 5 foot bed it has eight mount points. And each spacer is rated at 50,000 psi. Plus the kit comes with a pair of metal spacers that you tack weld between the bed and frame. So you actually get 10 mount points on the bed.
