Message: So I want to put a CB in my truck, 2002 QC 4x4, and was wondering where the rest of you yokels put your antenna?
I was thinking in the bed or there-abouts, but thought I'd get some opinions.
FireStik makes a stake hole mount that would be cool, unfortunatly, that would only work on the Ram. http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/SS-294A.htm

Message: There is a mounting braket for Dodges that was available at the CB shop I use. It is Stainless Steel and uses top fender bolt (on top under the edge of the hood). No drilling needed and fits between fender and hood. The great thing about that location is that you can run the coax cable down the back of the fender and through a rubber gommet between the door hinges. The cable enters the cab near the emergancy brake. No drilling there either!

Message: I have my 10' whip mounted on my back bumper on the drivers side. but planing on moving it up behind the cab to get out more than I am now.
Just remember to check your SWR's after installing the antenna. Go to radio shack and buy a SWR meter. 1 to 1.5 is best 1.5 to 2 is good 2 to 2.5 will work anything past 3 will damage your radio.
the higher the number = the harder the radio has to work to get out.

Message: Their are alot of way to do this! I drilled my rear bumber to mount a 102" SS whip. I once made a mount that bolted in place of a tie down hook. I made mine out of aluminum because it is easy to work with and brazes at low temps. There are alot of mounts that will slip over the lip of your doors, hood...... Check out an HRO catalog. You might also look at some amature radio magazines at your local library or book store. They offer alot more styles of mounts and they are all high quality. The typical CB mail order stores tend to sell alot of low grade cheap mounts. You might also try fire stick's web site! Try to have at least 70% of your antean above the roof line of your truck if you can.

Message: I put mine on the top of my bedrail right behind the drivers side rear window. I drilled a hole through the bedrail and bolted a window mount to it. The end that you mount the antenna to I left stick out the front of the bed towards the cab. Then I ran my coax between the bed and the cab so you can't see it. But I ran it through the bottom of the rear door so you can see it there. I just haven't gotten around to making a hole under the truck to run it completely out of sight. I use a 4', or a 5 1/2' when I am doing some highway driving. I use the shorter one most of the time. Why? Buy a big whip and go through a drive through once. lol

Message: I had my fiberglass wip right behind the cab mounted to the top of the bed, and it was crap. I checked the SWR and the best I could get there was about 3-3.5 which is no good. I then moved it to the roof, and now its SWR is about .5 If you actually want some range from your CB it has to be on the roof (unless you have one of those 10' wips) If you buy a wip with a cable built in (like the magnetic ones) then don't change the length of the cable without an SWR meter. They are set up best out of the box. Go for the roof. You'll be happiest.

Message: I replaced my am/fm antenna with a CB antenna (and used
a CB-am/fm splitter so my in dash radio still has ears). I
decided the hood would be a good enough ground plane
and I'd be most interested in getting forward and left when
on-highway anyway.
I dismantled and drilled out the stock antenna mount and
put a stud mount inside it. A quick disconnect lets me still
bring the truck though a car wash, and I get very little
wiggle since it's on a crease in the fender which ads
rigidity. I run a 3' FireStik II, and my SWR is between .9 and
1.4 (roughly).
FireStik's site
has a great tech docs section and a lot of nice mounting
options along with their wonderful antennae. Of course,
there is also the fender bolt mount option on
Rams and Daks. If you run off road and want to keep your
antenna on, get a spring mount. I haven't learned that
lesson the hard way yet, but I'm sure I will....
If you want pictures of what I did, drop me an email and I'll
get them posted early next week.

Message: I'm running a Wilson "little wil" on the roof with a small Galaxy radio. I've already talked about 10-15 miles with some guys at work. Granted I was going up a mountain at the time, but it was crystal clear. Next to the Wilson 5000 I run on the big truck, I'd say it is one of the best antennas I've owned.

Message: I am running a 4' fiberglass Firestik mounted to a custom retractable bracket, which I bolted to my bed rails. I ran the power cable to the retracting motor, plus the antenna coax between the cab and the bed, through the grommet under the rear driver's seat, under the door jam to the dash. Also, I have a PA installed under the hood running back to my dash. I haven't tuned it a whole lot, but it works good enough for me.

Message: I rigged a simple bracket to an empty hole behind the bumper, until I put the body lift on and removed the bumper and battery. This gave me great access to mount the small 8 ohm PA hanging from one or more of the holes in the bottom of the battery tray. One small bolt and a few washers later, it was mounted under the tray behind the bumper. (There's no other way to get it installed there...the bell was too big without removing the bumper.)
The speaker is unpowered, so only a two-wire miniplug runs between the outside fender and the engine compartment through the driver's side auxillary door grommet. The speaker faces forward, but with the windows down you can hear it a little. Its louder then you might think. From inside the cab, you really don't want to hear it because that'll be a source of feedback. I tried it once with the mic outside the truck, and I got lots of high-pitched feedback.

I thought about two 5' firestiks, but 4' was the longest I could go to laydown in the back with the motor. I had to mechanize my antenna due to restrictive garage height!!!

Message: What do you guys think about putting two red 4' Wilson (Similar to Firestiks) antennas on the corners of the rear bumper on my Red durango. It would stick a little less than a foot above the top. I think it might look kinda sweet.
My other option is to put the two in place of the AM/FM antenna and drill a hole opposite and use a AM/FM/CB splitter to gain my radio back..
What do you guys think??

Message: I think you need to trade up for a Dakota. :)
Fiberglass antennas still have a decent amount of flex in them, so I would worry about them banging into the rear quarters of your Dodge body. Do eleviate that, you could put tennis balls mid-way through the antennas like some CB fans do. If you're going with dual-antennas, I think you ought to mount them both to hood brackets up front, without drilling and without removing your radio antenna.
