Subject: Offroad wothy? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 93 4x4 longbed Dakota w/318, 3.55's, 4spd(O/D)auto tranny and 103,000mi. I am wondering if this truck is a worthy offroad truck? The motor is in good shape and I am wondering if this truck is worth putting some money into for some real offroading? Also, what are some of the most fairly common offroad mods I should do? I already added some tow hooks to the front an a pair in the rear are in the near future.

Message: Generally the long bed trucks aren't desired as they tend to hang up due to lower departure angles off the rear or a longer wheelbase over the short beds.
REAL offroading as you put it tells me you'll at least need to change the gear sets, this will cost you over $1,000 alone. If this is your daily driver consider purchasing a different truck for outings. I'm selling my 76 Chevy 4x4 with lift, tires, steering, motor and accesories all new or rebuilt for $1,200. I'm sure there is someone in your area selling nearly the same thing for nearly the same price. Add the $1,000 for gears to that and your done, without screwing up your daily ride if you roll it or you get stuck.

Message: I agree, go buy an old beat up Jeep. Like a Cj-5.
