Message: I have read a few articles om doing it. Pro Comp Mud Terrains come with the center lugs siped from the factory. Helps with on road traction and helps the tire wear longer.

Message: I'm thinking of having it done to either the bfg MT or the GY MTR's, which ever I decide to get. My truck is also my daily driver, and the roads here in CO can get icey and snow packed some times.

Message: It would be A win-win situation. You can get added traction on gravel and pavement. It don't help much in the mud. Also have you ever been out wheeling and had chunks of rubber removed from your tire due to sharp rocks? Sipeing in the tread will make those chunks smaller by giving the tear A place to stop. ( like A fire line cut through the woods to stop wild fires from spreading )I don't know of any drawbacks from sipeing.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

Message: Thanks Hawkeye and Bryan for the info! As soon as I get the $$ in a couple of weeks for new tires, I think I'll get them siped.

Message: Only downside I can think of might be for an ultra-high performance street tire. Those things depend on large blocks of rubber for grip, so I could see them getting a little "squirmy" at the limit. Can't see anything wrong with doing it on any other kind of tire.

Message: I work at Les Schwab tire center and we sell alot of sipeing. It works great for all of the above reasons mentioned. But the biggest help is in keeping the tire cooler and giveing it alot more traction in the rain and ice. Like acting like little biteing edges it grips and pulls you along in the ice, and it slices through the water to hit the pavement. Allthough it will cause excessive chunking (or tearing) if you travel along gravel roads alot. (not recomended for gravel) It is the best money you can spend if you want to increase the life and traction of your tire!!
