Subject: CW are you out there? IP: Logged
Message: Question Mr. Dodge Technician!
What are the different torsion bar rates on 4x4 daks. The reason I ask is I would like to put the torsion bars out of a 5.9 quadcab on my 98 5.2 clubcab if the quadcab ones are heavier. I know the V6 and V8 Gen II trucks had 2 different rates.
Also, are the upper A-arms on a 2wd different from those a 4wd?
Thanks,
Corey

The spring rates? I have no idea. I may be able to find out or for who to ask. I will talk to my partsman tommorrow he isn't in today.
Yes the upper control arms are quite a bit different. 2WD attches to the top of the frame the 4x4 attaches to the side. Give me a remider if I haven't gotten back to you tommorrow.

Message: Thanks for the help and welcome to the offroad board. You know we could probably fix you up with a 3" fabtech suspension and 3" bodylift so you'd fit in better j/k :)
The reason I asked about the a-arms is b/c the 2wds can get fabtechs a-arms with balljoints which would probably hold up well when we crank up our torsion bars. I figured they would be different.
If you can find out something on the torsion bars that would also be very cool. Some guys are maxing out there bars to level off their trucks but just can't get any height out of them. My front end sags down some under my heavy 318 and I'm not sure how much more I can crank the bars. With add-ons such as grill guards, winchs and other things we really need more strength in the front.
Thanks again,
Corey

Message: Yeah my 97' 4x4 didn't sit like a 4x4. I put on pro comp es9000 rear shocks if that makes me fit in better. LOL Ug they are stiff and I am not sure I can handle it. It rides like a old dodge 4x4 now. I will let them break in some and see if it gets any better. Warmer weather would help as well. It was -20°F this morning and I am getting tired of it.

Message: I asked the head parts guy and he said there was no real way to tell that he knew of. Sorry. I would think the 5.9 QC would be heavier but just a guess.

Message: Thanks CW
Like I said the GenII Daks had 2 rates, 1 for v6, 1 for v8.
Considering their isn't a whole lot of difference in the weight of a 4.7,5.2 and 5.9 I guess they might use the same but a QC and CC would be quite a bit of difference. So I'm back where I started from. I'm beginning to think they have still only 2 kinds of bars a v6 and v8 and thats why so many v8 QuadCabs are sagging and maxxing out there bars.
An aftermarket company needs to astart making these and 4x4 upper a-arms.
Later,
Corey
