Subject: 4.10 Gears for 2001 QC 4x4?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'd really like to be able to get 4.10s for my
2001 4x4 QC.

But, the guy at Randy's Ring and Pinion told me that the 2001 4x4 Dak runs an 8" Chrysler IFS Differential, for which the only gears available are the factory 3.92s ($500+ for the front, $200 for the rear). The sales guy at my local 4WheelParts said that the front differential
is a "standard" Dana 35 IFS, for which 4.10 gears
are available, for only $250 (rear is also $200)?

If anybody really knows "the truth" about this,
PLEASE POST IT !

Thanks

Randys is right. I have looked into this in depth. For 2000, Dodge went from the reverse Dana 35 front to an 8 inch Chrysler. 3.90(2)'s are as low as you can currently go.

Hawkeye & Randy are correct..
I tried to post something about this earlier but couldn't remember .. it's a 8" Chrystler yea that's the name of it.

You can double check by looking at the information in either your glovebox or it will be in the engine bay *somewhere*.

Hawkeye - Have you gotten the 3.92's yet? I think in a past post you said you were thinking of getting them from the dealership. If it wasn't you, disregard. If it was you, just curious if you had it done yet and if it was worth the money.

Jim,

I have 3.92's on my truck. I put 32" tires on and it made my 5th gear strictly hiway cruising. Forget about acceeration in 5th. I can't imagine my truck with 3.55's.

4.10's would be nice with 32" tires and, I would say, a must with anything bigger.

I'm still running 3.55's with m 33's (Its what I have ran on all my trucks), but I do plan to go to the 3.90's. I am going to get them from Randy's when I do. Dodge wants just over $1,000 for the front and rear set, and thats just the parts. No labor.

I'm not bragging, but I ordered the new truck with 3.92's instead of 3.55's because of what it costs to change your mind later. It's only a $40 option on a new truck. I learned this lesson the hard way.

My last truck had 3.55's, and I had to spend $1200 parts and labor to go to lower gears. Gearing is one thing that it definitely pays to look at when you buy the truck.

Heh.. I looked .. I couldn't find a truck w/ the 3.92's in it.

Cool For you that you did. I think I'll just replace my front end with a DANA 70 ;-) and the rear with a 2 1/2 TON.

MUAH HA HA HA HA then I won't break anything.
