I’ve been talking with Barbara at bushwhacker and she said that if we could get enough interest in a cut out flare for dak around the 90 - 95(gen II) that they would look in to making them her e-mail is
barbara@bushwacker.com
This would be great not only do they look great but the will in sure that the wider wheels would be covered and street legal. You guys with solid axle swap this would be perfect for you since your stand is 6" wider.
Help out and email her please even if you’re not sure you want a set

They won’t make it! I’ve approached them in the past and after some research, they replied that the body design wouldn’t allow for it. If you look at the front wheel wells, when you remove the inner liner, you only gain about a 3/4” of space at the rear of the well. The floorboards prevent you from trimming any further. To gain any more, it would require cutting into the floor and that wasn’t acceptable to them.

Ill give her a letter for ya! Just to see what happens. Explain these to me? Do you actually cut on the sheet metal and then use the flair to covre up the cutting. Can you run larger tires if you were to install them? Thanks

Yes Joe,
Cut out flares are just as the name implies. Basically, You remove some of the sheet metal to make the wheel well larger. They allow you to run larger tires without lifting the vehicle. Unlike standard flares that screw into the lip of the wheel well, with cutouts, you remove the lip and up to a few inches of sheet metal around the wheel well. The flare is screwed into the outer skin of the fender with screws around the top edge of the flare. You can just make them out in the photo below.

I contacted Bushwacker about 4 years ago and was told the same thing as Travis, if I was able to get enough interest in them, they would manufacturer them. A short time later, I received an email from someone in their engineering/design department that stated that the fender design of the early Dakotas didn’t allow for a cut out flare. It would require cutting into the floor and that was not acceptable to then for safety reasons.

I really like the looks of those cut out flares and I think that will be the look I end up going for. So if you need someone else to call them just let me know.. I'm going to need something wider on my truck anyway.

Walt, thanks for the help. I have often wondered if I could get a front set for another application and just cut out my fender to match that larger flair. Guess it wont work huh. Well, another engineering marvel that dodge has provided us with. Or rather another obstacle to jump in lifting our trucks!

I emailed barbra and told her I am intrested already. Just for some crazy chance they decide to figure something out with the floor boards or something.

Speaking of Glass Works Unlimited, has anybody been able to get them to verify that they are selling fenders for a 1995-96 or is that a typo (1995-2002) on their web site? I have e-mailed them, but got no response.

That has to be a typo. 87-96 Dakotas use the same fenders and all the photos on their page show 97+ Dakotas. The probably meant 97-02 Dakotas. Looks like they have other errors on their pages as well. Look at the link for 94-02 Dodge Ram Hoods. The image on the page is a fender, the same fender that is displayed for the 94+ Chevy S-10/sonoma hood

With these fiberglass fenders they are making, I understand you can run larger tires. But how much larger? What lift would it be comperable too? I just want 33's and it is damn hard to get them on a 2wd old Dak. Thanks for your time.
Joe E.
I know they dont make fenders for my r
truck, YET... But they said they would If we could get like 8 people or something to order them.

Umm.. I honistly can't remember for a 2wd but on a 4x4 with these flares you could run 33's. If you e-mail them I'm sure they can give you alot more information.

By the way, how is your lift coming? The whole site is on pins and needles waiting for the results.
