Subject: 4X4 Tires on the 2WD 2001 DAK

Message:
I would like to know if I can install the 31" tires that come stock on the 4x4 onto my 16x8 stock rim 2WD 3.55 auto? Can anyone tell me the actual size and make of the tires on the 4x4? Do I need to change gears for the Speedometer or put on a lift kit or what?

Are the 4x4 31" tires good in snow? i'm in Canada soooooo!

I have the tire and handeling group 255-65R16 16x8 on my 2WD with a 3.55..... is it going to rev more at highway speeds?

Please help ! I would like to simulate a 4x4 without putting too much money in it for now!

Well i believe you can do it. And 3.55 are good enough for 31's. i have seen many of stock height 2wd dakota's with the 31's. Oh and i believe that the tires are goodyear wranglers. but i don't advise you buying them they arn't that good. i would advise getting pro comp or bfg's. and yes i used to live in iowa the tires are good for the snow.

I dont get it. Wouldnt putting a 31" offroad tire on a 2wd seriously hurt hp? About how much power are you losing with those 31" tires?

Andrew, 31 inch tires arn't that big so putting them on a 2wd is fine you won't hurt hp. If you have the v6 or v8 putting those tires on will actually help cause you won't be spinning the tires so easily anymore you will be putting the horsepower to the ground so you can take off faster or when your off road less chance of you just sitting there spinning in dirt. your mpg will go down a bit but as far as torque and horsepower the dodge have enough that it won't hurt.
