Message: I am considering a new set of shocks for my 93 4x4 Dakota w/318 and am looking at the Rancho 5000's. Are these decent shocks? I am looking at these due to price($36 each) and the rancho name. I dont really have any knowledge about shocks or picking them out but I need someting for light to medium offroading but also for back and forth to work everyday. Oh yeah, what kind of bushing do they come with, and should I replace them with better ones?

Message: I have never owned the rancho's, but i have heard they are a little harsh on road. Based on the low price, I would say they are not all that good. Most performance shocks seem to be in the $70-90 ea. range. I payed $72 ea. for mine. I bought NAPA's high end Reflex shock. I am very happy with them. Great ride, and I lost most of the rear end wheel hop. I have also heard thatthe Edelbrock shocks are good. I'm not saying the rancho's are bad, but there are some out there that are better.

Message: Had Rancho RS5000's on an Explorer. I felt they were too soft, no noticable ride change from the 70,000 mi stockers. They are not a high pressure gas, they have a cellulose foam to keep the oil from foaming.
I went with the Rancho RSX's on the Dak and the ride is a bit stiff on Freeway sections and tend to vibrate the truck over rough road around 50 mph. The performance gain in reduced dive and body lean over stock (38k mi.) the other 90% of the time though is worth it to me. Think I paid $50 each with boots from Summit Racing.
BTW the stock one's are pressurized gas.

Message: I just ordered 4 Trailmaster SSV gas shocks for my 97 Dak but think I'm going to lift the truck in the near future so I must sell them. They are for standard stock height. You can have all four for $150 plus shipping. Let me know if interested.
