Hey YJ I haven't been driving it because my
alignment is off. That is why the tires are rubbing so
much. (Chassis Tech) Is the company that did the lift
is sending me a part that is supposed to solve the
alignment problem. Then i can tell how much the tires
are rubbing and have the wheel wells trimmed. I asked
them when i picked it up if I would be able to clear
35's under it. He said no not unless I was to do a
body lift also. When i took my truck to a shop near
me they said that if I had put 15x8 rims I wouldn't
have any rubbing. But oh well I already bought the
15x10 rims. I will be able to answer more of your
questions when it is all done. I will email you again
with all the answers.
---
Still a lot of questions! ; ) Can't wait though!!! Also, I take it that the $500 credit towards an install at a local shop is out of the question???
Thanks guys,
YJ

Message: Not a dumb question, but I'm pretty sure there's no way of easily decreasing the lift amount short of doing some custom cutting.
I, for one, am praying to the high heavens that with a 6.5" lift and 15X8" wheels, I'll be able to clear 35's without rubbing. But it seems that may not be the case. The 33's on dpkern's truck look pretty darn nice, though. ; )

Message: Ok well we will just have to see what happens with tire size when we get it installed. I'm hopeing that I can at least fit 33's on the 4.5" lift but 34's would be very nice. I found some that I like. I'm going to get them from Discount tire so I'll have them mounted and see if they rub before I buy them. One question I had for all of you is.. Why do tires rub more when you go in reverse?

Knobby, hope you can answer my questions when you get your lift installed. 34's would look fantastic. Of course, 33's would as well. ;)
Good luck!!! Thanks for the info.

Message: I received some early install from Ian and aside from cutting off factory bump stops and drilling a few holes(dropped torsion bar crossmember and drop brackets for front), little modifications are required. It would seem this kit would be "reversible" if you ever wanted to take it off(trade or sell truck:) since you don't have to chop off the upper a-arm mounts to install drop brackets like most IFS kits. COOL!!! Sounds easier than the install on my S10 Blazer, that was a PITA and since I had to cut off most of the upper a-arm mounts, it was not easily reversible so the Dakota kit sounds like a great set-up if it aligns back to factory specs and rides OK. I know I am voiding my warranty and buying a kit, probably the 4.5" since I already have 3" body lift and I would still like to be able to get in and out without a step ladder(I am only 5'6":).

My buddy Chris at Trailready/RoadArmor, mentioned they just got in a newly redesigned 5.5" or 6" lift for one of their '99 durango's. Thought you might want to check and see if they've done a redesign on the 99 and earlier dakota lifts.

I will also check on the Free Install to see what the deal is with that. But if u guys think about it for $1200 w/ install that'd be crazy cheep. Considering everything from Rancho is $1000+ w/o install. Anyway I'll let u guys know when I find out.

Message: The website now states "as of Feb 4th we are discontinuing the free install promotion".
I have an email from them dated Feb 4th where he told me they'd cover any install fees ... then they rebutted that and said "up to $500".
And, nothing against the new guys on the block, but Rancho has been around a lot longer. When you pay the $1k+ for a Rancho lift, at least you know they've done the R&D for years on all types of trucks and that they've got two legs to stand on.
I'm gonna sit back and let you guys go this one alone ... and hope TruckinSuspension doesn't turn out to be another Whiplash.
Good luck! And I am hoping for the best.

Message: I hope not also. I will say this though. I ordered the lift about a week ago 02/04/02 and they have not billed my credit card yet. The reason for that is because (by my guess) they haven't sent the lift because they were still getting the machines ready to automate the production process. I just hope that the lift gets sent soon. I want this on here.

Message: Anyone have any new info for us on the suspension lift? Details? Tire-size/Rubbing?
I want a lift but haven't received any solid info from truckin' suspension. I'm also a bit concerned....dpkerns' dakota was the test truck and he has stated that not everything has been completed. Something about an alignment piece and so forth to help with 33" tires rubbing with the 6.5" lift? Also having to do some body trimming? I'm a bit concerned because with all of this, they are setting up the assembly line to begin production. Not much of a test truck if you haven't actually tested the product. This also leads to a lack of detailed information.
I'm dyin' for a lift.....I just wish Knobbyman was going the 6.5" route with 35's. ;) Then he could answer all of my questions! ;)

Are you planning to run 35" with the 6.5" lift? That's what I am going to do. Ian said that the 35" will work with 8" rims, his tech guy assured him. So if you got 8" rims you'll be fine... I on the other hand have to sell my 10" rims.
