if u still dont know why the back sits lower than the front here is one reason its because the majority of the weight is in the front and that is where u need the most travle and dampining also its to keep the truck from fliping over in the air and to your question as to weather there are prerunner parts for a dak go to www.prerunners.net and look under members rides on page 25 and scroll down there is a dak on there but your best bet is to get a ranger or toyota because they have the most parts redialy avaliable

A ranger is stronger because of the i-beam front suspension. Our daks arn't as strong for pre-runnin. There are a few more reasons the front usually sits higher than the back in pre-runners and baja trucks, thats a whole bunch of physics I can't type about right now. LoL Its easier on the front to have the shock from bumps and what not travel up and back rather than just up.

the i beam set up is not neccasarily sttronger or the custome framed pre runners would use them aka baja trucks.

its just hard to lift this truck the daks balljoints fail on street use. the rack and pinion steering setupwould only really allow for a craddle style lift.

there is simply to many obsticles financially. for a company to do the r&d put a lift out there without risks of lawsuits etc.

the I beam set up is not stronger .......The reason is that they are cheaper to extend and get parts for it . If you going to fix a truck up , then you would want to have some upper and lower arms fabbed , remove the spring housing and put coil overs with heim joints and uniball set up which is stronger than balljoints ....... All some what prerunners run heims and uniballs . Only lifts for looks run the balljoints . I'm looking into doing this to my quad cab , 5,000 for the front ........... check out orcmotorsports.com and check out the dak on there ..............

dodge ram long travel???
IP: Logged

Message:
I've got a 2001 dodge ram 1500 extended cab. It's the sport model, with 4x4. I've been searching and searching but I can't find anything as far as a long travel suspension for it. I know that the ram's four link front suspension isn't really designed for that, but I'm looking for anything bolt-on, or custom made. Also, I'm looking for a prerunner bumper for it. I want to lose my stock bumper completely, and replace it with a prerunner type with a skidplate so I don't crush my radiator! If anyone knows a kit, or a shop somewhere in the southwest that fabs stuff like that, PLEASE, let me know!

Does anybody know of a good prerunner suspension kit. Something including the A-arms, springs, and shock absorbers?

There are no kits out there in the sense of something like what camburg sells for rangers and other trucks but i have heard of GR fabrication doing a few in their shop, if you have seen the prerunner video Change from the DA the dakota in there was done by GR Fab. Other than that i know that Atomic Motorsports Concepts was planning to make a kit and my truck was to be the test vehicle but they still wanted 6k from me and i didn't have the cash, that was over a year ago. you might contact them and see if they have done anything or are still planning to do a kit. Other than that most of the others are one off jobs or done in someone's own shop or backyard garage like mine. Ihave been trying to think of a way to do the front end of my truck and almost have all of my parts to do the rear. Maybe another month or so. This is my truck right now except i also 3 hella ralley 4000's on the front bumper.

hey ryan,
what size tires do you run?? I just ordered 33X12.5's and im kinda sketchin about whether they are gonna fit or not. I had 32X11.5's before....running on that blue std cab prerunner.
I hope they fit, i did a lot of trimmin and cut down some fiberglass. It would suck to limit travel by tires

I have 32x11.50R15 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's and they don't rub just driving around and doing normal offroading but once you start getting seriouse with the whoops and the jumps the rubbing shows up.I have done the math on some 33's and i think your gonna have trouble if you bottom out because i have bottomed out and my tires rub bad enough to rip out some of the rivets holding the aluminum on. if your bottoming on a turn i think it'll be worse. I tried some 1.5 inch spacers to allow for a larger tire but that just compunded the problem. i got so tired of it that i decided i'm gonna drop some real coiun and get the front built by a pro fab shop like blitskrieg motorsports or the baja shop. I know it'll be expensive but it'll be so worth it.

Ya i forgot you had the body lift. With that i bet wit works fine but i tried 1.5 spacers on just the 3in fabtech lift and didn't work so well. I was lucky i didn't shred a tire. I have found a solution to my problem though. I contacted Atomic Motorports Concepts and talked to the owner and he told me he should be able to hook me up with a custom front suspension that will get around 15 or 16 inches of travel in the front. He said the baseline for this will be 6,500 but he's not sure yet since he hasn't ever done a dakota so he's working on a real price quote right now. but to me 16 inches on the front for below 7k on a dakota with coilovers sounds good to me. By the way where are you located eric?
