Subject: 4WD not working? IP: Logged
Message: I went to go 4 wheeling in the sand and when I when I put it into 4Lo the 4WD drive light didn't come on. i thought that maybe the bulb was burnt out. Boy was I wrong. I got stuck in the sand real quick. the front tires wern't turning. I have a 92 Dakota with a vacumm type engagement for the the front axle. What could be the possible reasons for the the 4WD not to engage? I will check the vacumm hoses. Is there a way to change that vaccum system? The newer Genn II doesnt use a system like that. Could I swap out a front drive axle from a newer truck and fit it into my truck? I felt really bad that I had to be towed out, but it was at least with another Dodge.

Message: This is a common problem with early Dakota’s with the vacuum actuated CAD system on the front differential. It normally comes up on the lists this time of year. Click on the image of my Dakota below and read the section “4x4 Won't Engage“
