When using a 3 inch lift from Performance Acc.
Are there any modifications required for an
automatic transmission, such as a longer lever
to the transmission?
Thinking about doing it, any comments good or

Daks, 97+(not sure about GenI and GenII) have a cable for shifting transmission, no direct linkage. If you do not have the electronic shift transfer case, you will need to remove, cut and weld in an extension to the transfer case shift handle. That is the only cutting/welding with this kit. Aside from trimming the fan shroud some, 01+ Daks are easy compared to other trucks I have installed body lifts:)

Thanks 2THEXTRM for the info on the linkage to the
Auto Transmission. I have a 1998 Dakota 4x4,and
I just put a set of 33 inch tires on it.
How much of the Fan Shroud did you have to trim?
And also did your Front and Rear bumpers line up
ok after doing the lift.
Did you have to do any modifications to the rear
bumper where the bar goes to crank down the spare
tire.
Did you purchase your life from Performance Acc?

I have a 99 CC 4x4 with the lift installed and 33" tires. you're still going to rub a bit on the frame using the stock rims. not bad and it really doesn't hurt anything, but be avised... lining up the bumpers is no problem. you have to drill a hole to get the spare down in the conventional manner. the manual kit drops the fan shroud with brackets and requires no trimming. the auto kit requires a few small holes, I believe. performance accessories is the brand I recommend and have experience with. you can get it pretty cheap at jcwhitney.com, I think.

Did you put on 33's before doing body lift? I used the Performance Accessories lift and highly recommend it. I have used Trailmaster in the past and this kit was equal if not better. I only trimmed off the lip of lower fan shroud that is about 1" wide and sticks out horizontally from shroud itself, probably for keeping rocks from kicking up into fan from underneath truck. My bumpers actually lined up pretty good on the first try, I only put in a couple extra washers to raise front bumper closer to grille and lights to give a bit more clearance for tires and prevent having to trim due to rubbing. You have to drill hole in frame crossmemeber and behind license plate to retain and access spare tire lowering arm. Kind of a pain, but worth it if you want to throw a 33" spare under there which fits with some vaseline and elbow grease without clunking underneath.

I live not to far from you in Ottawa ont. Did you purchase your lift in Syracuse.Yes I put my tires on before the lift . I Did not order yet but soon waiting for better weather .

i just bought the trailmaster 3" body lift and will be installing it very soon with all the info on this site i should have no problem with the install thanks guys
ps all you guys with the 33 inch tires are they the 12.50 or the 10.50?i know the 12.50 will rub on the frame.i have flares and mud flaps would that at all be in the way of the 12.50's on stock 15x8 rims?
i wish that bfg mud terrains came in 11.50 with the 33's

Kevin, I ordered my Body Lift from 4 Wheel Parts, the 1.5" lift block from Suspension Connection, and the custom made u-bolts for rear-end locally at Fulton Spring. I have less than $300 into lift with about 10 hours of labor. And how did you put on 33's before lift without having to drive only in a straight line:) I go to Canada 2-3x year for the weekend before Buffalo Jills, I mean Bills games.
brucemoose2, It has been so dry for the past year that the few mudholes around are just sand pits instead. Maybe in the springtime if we get some more snow first. I haven't inquired into muddin spots lately and all the ones I used 5-10 yrs ago are closed up with chains and fences. Now that my Dak is worthy of some deep mud, I will be checkin around. Saw some other posts that Happy Valley has some good terrain, will probably check that out in the spring.
durtydog, I have 33x11.50's with no rubbin at all on factory molded mud flaps over factory fender flares, I do not expect any rubbin with my new 33X12.50 Pro Comp XT's with the extra 1" of lift with torsion bars cranked up more. From what I have seen with those that have 3" body lifts, most have some or no rubbing on lower corner of front bumper with the 12.50's. It will really depend on your rim offset, need to keep it as close to the stock backspacing as possible and not get rims that stick out from fender to avoid having serious rubbing and cutting to do.

Thanks durtydog, I am runnin Futura Dakota LT's from Pepboys, I am thinkin they are made by Cooper for Pepboys exclusively. They have a tread pattern that is very similar to the BFG AT's and do a good job with traction in mud and snow with pretty good road manners, not too loud IMO. They balanced out better than the factory 31" Good-Craps and the truck is now smoother with the 33 inchers expect for sharp road bumps since the wider tire picks up road imperfections a little more now. The best thing was the price for this size tire @ $89.99 each plus mounting and balancing. They make a great all year round if you do not want a really aggressive tread making your mpg dissapear and give you a headache from road drone. I am using them for my "winter tire" mounted to my stock wheels and will use the ProComp XT's mated to Hellcats in the summer to keep them lookin new:) They do make the same size tire in 15" for your factory wheel and I recomend them if you have a Pepboys around you! With the cost savings you can buy the Superlift Truspeed Recalibrator and get back accurate shiftpoints and speedo reading.

If i runn the 33" futuras and wanna swith to my mudds during the summer, then wanna switch back, do you have to do balanceing and allignment everytime you change the tires. (They would be on two separate sets of rims) Just curious. Thanks

If you have two sets of wheels/tires you would not have to have them balanced(unless your truck is shaking) and alignment done each time you switch the tires. Having two sets is easier and saves $$, rather than paying someone to mount/dismount/balance two times a year.

2THEXTRM my tires only rub when only at full turn .They are 33, 12.50 on the factory stock rims. The same style you have.In this kit does it have steering shaft extensions and brake line adaptors or is it not required in or applications.

You do get extensions for the steering shaft and some funky bracket to raise the brake lines up on driver side(took a few minutes to figure out how and why it works the way it does).

I put on a flowmaster exhuast system on my Dakota and i am about to put a 3 inch body lift on.
Will there be a gap between the rear bumper and the tow hitch and exhaust tips???

There will be a gap, but it looks fine in my opinion. The performance accessories kit's rear bumper brackets raise the rear bumper around 2 inches rather than the full 3 inches. This helps visually compensate for the hitch and exhaust not moving up. My hitch looks fine where it is, and my exhaust looks fine as well. I don't have any pics of the back end, but I'm pretty sure Hawkeye does on his site. Hawkeye's site is listed on his profile.
