Subject: lifting 99 2WD

I'm wanting to lift a 99 2WD dakota about 2". I've seen Fabtecks kit, is this a good kit? How does it raise there rear? All I see is different shocks for the rear, I don't see how shocks can raise a truck unless they are super stiff. Does anyone know how much this kit cost, or of any other good kits? Thanks, Mark

I had a 99 dak 5.2L w/ fabtech's 3" lift. Overall the lift is pretty good but it doesn't really lift the back of the truck. They give you an add-a-leaf to install in the leaf spring pack but this only gives you about 1/2" of lift and makes the back stiffer. The only way to raise the back of the truck (and do it right) is to get a custom spring pack made (about $400).

There is one major problem with this kit though, they do not include washers for the bushings on the upper control arm. After about 2 weeks, my left bushing actually fell out because the nuts became loose. Fabtech told me directly that the kit NEEDED these.

Another thing to consider is your stock rims. These will not work with the kit because they will rub on the upper control arms (which fabtech neglected to tell me). I got the baja rims with my kit because they were the cheapest ($450).

Is this kit worth it?
In my opinion, no. I spent about $1200 on a 3" kit that I installed myself. But if all your looking for is looks, and you planned on getting diff rims anyway, this may be the way to go. As for myself, I traded mine for a 00 4x4 which is about 3" higher than the 2 wheel drive and gave me the added perf off-road that I needed:)

Any other questions?
