 Subject: Torsion bars for my 99 dak?

Hi, i just recently bought a 4x4 99 dakota sport with a 318. I want to lift it so i am able to fit 33's but dont want to pay $1300 for a 3 inch lift, i also dont want to do a body lift because of the frame showing so much. I had a friend tell me about raisin it with my torsion bars. but when i got to askin around about it i had several people tell me that the factory torsion bars weren't strong enough and that they made the tires slant. they told me that i would have to buy diffrent torsion bars. Is there any truth to that and if so does anyone know where i could purchase them
