Subject: Whiplash 10" Lift IP: Logged
Message: I just called Rocky Mountain Suspension about the 10" lift suposedly for 97-02 Dakotas. The lady I spoke to was very friendly. She spoke to a company rep. then got back to me. Whiplash is indeed making a version of the 10" for rackers. She said the lead time is 15 days and to call next week if I wanted to order. I know that many of you are skeptical of Whiplash and I intend to do some research myself. I just thought you might like to know that yes, someone is really doing a lift for rackers. Don't lose hope. Besides the new design Rams have racks too and so do Tundras, so that's probably the way the industry is heading in terms of steering. The aftermarkets will not be able to ignore it much longer.

Message: Cleviet 77, a racker is a truck with rack and pinion steering. Thats what I have been hearing. It seems really impossible to raise a Dak 10in. I would really be worried about the front geometry. But hey, go for it. I would love to see a Dak with 37's or 39's. Good luck.

Message: Thanks to everyone's replies. I'm sorry I haven't been back to the board, before now, to answer any of the questions but I've been out sick. Thanks to those to did research and answered questions in my absence. We all appreciate it. I don't know if I will go with the 10" lift myself. From what I see on Whiplash's site, all their lifts tend to cater to those in search of huge tires. And while I think my truck would look great with some 36's on it, I don't know if it will work well with towing. I plan on towing a motorcycle trailer and I sometimes carry dirt bikes in the bed. Towing would put a tremendous strain on the suspenion and drivetrain of a truck with lots of lift. I don't think I want to try and hoist a dirt bike into the back of a truck with 36"ers. I wanted to bring this information back to the front to let others know that might be interested. Im sure other compainies will be making more conservative lifts in the very near future. The tractions bars look like a good idea though. I'll probably get a set of those, or maybe Rancho's version even if I don't lift the truck at all.

Message: I think that Whiplash is another "buyer beware." There has been a LOT of bad press about the entire company. I was all stoked about Whiplash about 7 or 8 months ago, and then started hearing bad things. That lead me to doing some Internet crawling & I came across enough bad things that I don't think I'd ever touch one of their lifts.
Don't get me wrong, I want a suspension lift like no other!! But, I want/need it to be rock-solid...like Rancho & SuperLift are known for.
On that note, I just got a copy of 4 Wheel Parts' big @$$ catalog, and the SuperLift section has a Coming Soon entry for a 4" lift for the 97-00 Durango & Dakota 4x4's. Hopefully they won't pull a Rancho on us, and put the project on hold for over a year.

Message: Damm!t Halo, ou got my hopes up.
I called suprlift, they are about 3 hours drive north of here. I was hiped up, I don't drive my truck during the week so I was going to offer it up as a tester. I trust superlift! They said that the dakota has changed too much. 97-99 would require 1 kit and 2000-2002 would require another. They don't see large amounts of sales from Dakotas. So for now still nothing!
When I'm ready to buy if nothing alse is available I'll have to get the 3" rancho kit.

Message: I think I'm still going to buy the Whiplash at the end of May unless, some one convinces me otherwise. Most people I've read about seem to like it. I'm still saving my pennies for the gears I need to run the 38s. Who knows, I may cave and just get a 5.5 cause climbing in and out of a 10in lift gets old after awhile if you know what I mean.
Halo3 thanks for that update about "SuperLift" possibly coming out with a 4 inch. Now I have to think some more. At least their lifts are very reputable and we wouldn't have to go through the sh_t Knobbyman is going through with Truckn. If Rancho would just make a lift bigger than 3 inches that would solve all our problems.

Message: 99Dak blah blah blah,
Do like another guy here did and buy the TC 5.5 lift and put a 3in body on. He runs like 38s. That way you get your big ass meats and a solid lift. And probably somewhat cheeper than the Whiplash thing.

Message: Hey Joe,
I've been talking to Scott through the forums. He is the one who was running the 38s on the 5.5 TC and 3 inch lift. He doesn't own that truck any longer. He did have some problems with holding the alignment at the A-arms and so forth.
The only reason I'm considering the Whiplash is because there system replaces all that. And I get two more inches without any rubbing. Scotts original job was unique two years ago but he did not recommend any off roading otherwise the fenders would get destroyed. Yes, you are right, I'd probably save myself about $400 - $500 but at least I'll only be dealing with one company.
Anyhow, I still haven't decided if I want the 38s or the 35s so that will determine the lift. But if I'm going to do it I might as well do it right. Lift, rims, tires, install charge, and gears.... all big bucks $$$$$.

Message: Bill, I admire you friend,
thats alot of cash to shell out at once. Us poor folk have to do it in installments. How do you think a 5.2L or 4.7L will handle 38s? Thats my only worry. What gears will you run, upper 4s or even 5s? Good Luck with your ride man.
