Ok, here is an interesting situation I observed today. Came home with one of our work vehicles today '01 Ford Expedition 4x4 and noticed it also had the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires on it like my '01 Dakota has. The Ford uses a P255/70R16 tire where as my Dakota has a P265/70R16 tire. The two tread designs were actually noticably different including the style of white outlined lettering. Is this somthing new? Two tires with the same model name having a totally different design. I have pics if any one is interested. Just though it was kinda strange. Go figure with Goodyear though... And one more interesting comparison between the two vehicles, my Dakota QC is actually about 3-4 inches longer than the Expedition though not quite as wide. By the way, I will stick with my Dak any day over this particular SUV!!!!

Last I checked there were about 3 different tread patterns for various sizes of the RT/S. Go figure. Guess they couldnt make their minds up.

Yeah, they are different. I have a 00 Dak and a 01 Expy. The tires on the Expy are P265/70R17 and my Dak has 21x10.50R15. I too noticed the difference. I haven't had any problems with my Dak tires... other than traction kinda sucks in rain/mud. But there have been alot of complaints with the Expy tires... as far as handling.

I figured the difference in tread was the Passenger/Metric vs LT/non-metric distinctions... but I guess there is more to it.

BTW, what do you think about the handling of the Expy (e.g., road feel in the steering wheel and body-roll)? These things are REAL loose. I am changing some suspension components to get a better feel about it.

Hi Robert,
Have to agree with you on the feel of the Expedition. That truck is loose and has a lot of bounce going over dips in the road and such. Feels like it could bottom out almost. Also the interior reminds me of play dough. All the extra grab handles look pasted or stuck on and out of place kinda like sticking play dough pieces together on each other. Too many curves in the interior to. Not a straight piece of plastic to be found. I wouldn't turn it down if they gave me one for work, but I also wouldn't buy one myself.

my f150 had a r-back tire blow out today and its a new tire. about 3k miles on it. it is the P265/70R17 tire. I am out of luck maybe because they say it is road hazard and no warrenty, but I think I do have road hazard on it so will fight them about it. just thought I would let you know.

Was that a Badyear Wrangler RTS that blew out? I have had a left front RTS blow out on an almost new Ram, and a right front RTS blow out my '01 Dakota. Both tires were properly inflated. I don't know if it was just me, but when the sidewall blows out on me twice on two different trucks it makes me wonder about the quality of the Wrangler RTS. I don't like 'em. The only reason I had them on two vehicles is that I had just bought the vehichles. The only time I liked them is when I left 'em at the tire store. I'm running Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radial 305-70-16's now. These are real tires.
