Subject: whats the deal? IP: Logged
Message: I would like to know what the heck is the deal with all the lifted toyota's with the big honkin tires I see driving around town and on the trail. I am new to 4x4's and offroading and I may not know much but what advantages to offroading do they have over Dakotas. I have been in a few yotas and can tell you as far as power goes they're guttless. I hardly ever see any Dakotas around here that are very offroad worthy with a lift and big tires.

Message: Mine has done quite well with just 31's. But mark my words as soon as I have 2K I will get a 5.5" lift and 35" tires. And then when I get even more, I will get a 12,000lbs toyota saver. (hydrolic winch).
But I have not had a trouble at all. Infact I have spanked my friends Jeep on some hills behind our school in 2wd. :) Because I was to lazy to bend over and pop her into 4 wheel drive. She was built worthy. Toyotas, well they could use some power.

Message: Not meaning to sound smartassed or anything else but I've been off roading for the better part of thirty years and my current toyota with it's "big honkin'" 38's is over 250,000 miles and still going strong. My gas mileage is great and I personally have all the power I need to go most places I need. Fact is I've been to some pretty interesting places. The Olympic National Park in Washington to Rollins Pass in the Rockies, the deserts of southern Idaho to the swamps in Florida and the Snow of Marquette Michigan to the thick mud of Southwest Virginia. I have had the gas guzzling V-8's and never saw the need for that much power when crawling a mountain and hated feeding those beasts. If you want to fly by me, cool, I'll gladly pull over. I've gotta tell you, though, Too many times I fnd that guy later stuck, flipped,in a ditch or just making an ass out of himself. I guess it's just a "Big Honkin Tire" thing, you wouldn't understand. Message: Reasons for Toyotas(not that I would ever own one):
1. Solid front axle.
2. Yes they run 4 and 6 cylenders, but it is the gearing that counts.
3. Parts are cheaps and always available.
4. The engines are very dependable.
I am sure there are others but these are the main ones. Dakotas are great; I love mine. But, the aftermarket availability sucks and Mopar parts are outragously priced. It really doesn't matter what brand it is. If it has an IFS system, it sucks. Thats why the new Jeeps suck, that why the new rangers suck, and even the new Toys. It broke my heart when I heard they are putting IFS in the new 1/2Ton Rams.

Message: Talk about heart breakers. Is that true about the Jeeps (Wranglers)? No solid fron axle? I know you can get the Dana44 in the rear. But on a further note on Jeeps, you can pretty much kiss them good-bye in 2003. So much for the last off-roading vehicle. Highway Administration has stricte rules coming for 2004-5. Side airbags required, etc. etc. Might as well drive your couch. Fuck Big gov't man.

Message: I dont care how big your yota was or what size tires you had, I still hate toyotas and all other offroading imports. And On-roading imports too. I just plain hate imports, esspecially those really annoyoing ones that humm up the road like a bumble bee. Hot rod of the 90's? Yeah right, I'll take a loud, rude, "put up or shut up, you may win, but my american iron will eat your rice for dinner when its all over" muscle car! DOWN WITH IMPORTS!!! Maybe I'll start my own anti-import club. Didnt mean to get off subject here.

Message: Dude, you are retarted. I have a 4x4 dak and I love it, but you have to respect toyota. I have friends with toyota trucks that can do stuff my dakota could only dream of off road. If you have never driven one, maybe you should. New toyotas are build much better than american cars period. They last twice as long and break half as often. Oh yeah, than new Tundra V8 can spank a dakota V8. Times have changed since the small underpowered imports of the 1960's (honda cvcc), wake up man.

Message: Sorry Kevin, got to disagree with you there. There has not been a Toy around that could ever hang with any of my Fords I have owned. Many tried. So far my Dak is continuing the same rought. I would take on a toy anytime. I have been in them as well. Not saying they arent good but I will NEVER say they are better by any means.

Message: Oh kevin, pull your head outta you a$$, its called personal preference. I never said the daks are better at offroading than yotas, I said I dont like toyotas and all other imports. There is a difference. As far as the tundra thing, I think I'll wait to see some numbers as far as 1/4 mile times before I believe that one.

Message: Yeah, toys are definately not fast in general, but the new V8 is sweet. Automobile Magazine said the 4x4 V8 does 0-60 in 7.9 sec. I am not rushing to the toyota dealership obviously. I respect your personal preferences, but now you can't say that the new ones are slow. That tacoma is pretty fast too, it pissed me off when a TRD V6 beat me, he had some mods done but so do I. It was a close call anyways.

Message: I know what you mean. My freind and I raced a QC Tacoma 2wd and got smoked. Pretty sure he had a sixer but we were in a brand new Altima with just a 4banger. I was almost sick, not because we got beat by a truck, but because my dak was in the shop and I was riding in rice.......but at least I was riding:)

Message: Each vehicle has its day. The history to the Toyota has a richer one cuz it is longer. My personal prefrance is a DAK even with the probs I have had with it. Toys are fun just not for me. Glad I don't have a v6. Their 4 banger is the only toy engine worth having.

Message: What is fun with ToyToys is really the after market and TRD. It has way more to offer than the products (or lack there of) for the newer (2000+) Dakotas.
Ever dreamed of a factory supercharger ?
Well TRD as one, pushes the 6 to 250HP and about the same for torque.
It all the same old story when it come for offroad and I have to agree with y22. Some days you wish you could turn tighter, be shorter, squeeze the truck to pass between.
All the other days, use the timberjack...

Message: you know what people say oh I lave my toyota well i'll give you a reason to get the dakota. A few weeks ago I was out in my dak and got cut off while doing 70 on the freeway had to swerve around him and ended up rear ending a toyota tundra, thankfully I was proven to not be at fault. Cops estimated I was doing roughly 60 when I hit him and let me tell you my dak went right through his toy he ended in the hospital, he's ok thank god. But I walked away without a scratch. so that's my reason why daks are the best trucks ever. Cops said there was no way I should have walked away. As soon as I get to a scanner I'll post some pictures of the dakota.

Message: ok I posted pictures of the truck
they are at
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/nanook6666/lst?.dir=/My+Photos&.src=ph&.last=1
the one on the bottom is my baby before the wreak
and the two on the top is what she looked like once I got her home and got the fender and the bumper off.
you can't tell from the picture but the force of the impact tweaked the frame so the passenger side is five inches back from the driver side.
I have since acquired a new truck and, god willing, going to out fit it during x-mas break and willpost many pictures once done.
