Mopar 8.25 1/4 Sure Grip differential with a 3.90 gear ratio...
1st. i have 1994 dakota ext cab v8 with 33 inch tires with a 3.55 open dif and i am wondering if the 3.90 is the recommended gear ratio for mudding, trail riding or should i go with something bigger? keep in mind i do like cruising at 70mph on the freeway also. but with the bigger tires is a 4.10 recommended, curious of peoples opinions about this?
2nd. the differential does not have an abs ring they called it- is it possible to run a 1994 dakota with out this sensor and is it bad if i dont have rear abs? do most after market differentials lose this abs function?
thank you guys for so much of your help with these trucks in the past and i hope someone has some insight or knowledge that they will share, again thank you!!!!

Message: dakotadodge,
3.90s will get you closer to 'original' operating specs (RPMs at certain speeds; Torque values; etc.) that you experienced with the factory sized treads. Wouldn't be a huge difference between the 3.90s and 4.10s. 4.56s would be better for slingin mud, but you will expeience noticably higher rpms at 70 mph on the hwy. Running with the ABS wire simply 'tied up' may throw a code and/ or keep your ABS dash light on. I'm am not sure what would need to be disconnected or come off your rig to eliminate that. An email to one of the tech sections of an off road 'rag' (Petersons Four Wheel drive, Off-Road, Four Wheeler, etc.) would likely answer that. The primary reason of ABS is to prevent the rear of the rig from passing the front in an emergency situation. You must decide for yourself if it is needed or not. On your `94 it was an option.
Hope this helps.

Message: well from what i under stand is that the biggest gear i can fit in the front differential is a 4.10 because of the size of the housing and that seems like its going more than i would like to go because in the winter i run 31s instead of the 33s and if i go up north its going to really affect the gas mileage. i was told another two to three miles less per gallon... so i am going for the middle of the road choice with this one... thanks for the input bill, always appreciated!!!
