Hi,
The upper control arm bushings on my '02 Dakota Sport 2WD are cracked and worn. Does anyone have the procedure to remove and replace?
Thanks in Advnace!

Thanks, Clyde. I've already checked with a Dodge
dealer on this. I was hoping to get some info here
so I could do it myself.
The dealer estimated $740 to replace the UCB's and a
tie rod end. The parts are about $45...

Some parts stores (Autozone I know does) will print you out directions on what to do...and loan you the specialty tools needed for the job!

Short version:
-Raise vehicle
-Remove wheel
-Loosen about 3/4 the way (DON'T completely remove!)upper ball joint nut
-Using a 'pickle fork' or ball joint separator pop the upper joint loose, being careful not to tear the grease boot
-Place a jack under the lower control arm, raising it just enough to remove the previously loosened nut
-slowly lower the jack, releasing the 'sprung pressure of suspension spring
-Mark (or make note of) where adjustments are indexed on the 'cam washers of the front and rear of upper control arm.
-Remove control arm from frame
-Press out old bushings
-Press in new bushings
-Reinstall in the opposite sequence you removed it.

Once you remove the control arm from your rig, you will need access to an arbor press to push the old ones out and the new ones in. You can also simply take the control arms and new bushings to a shop that does front end work and have them press them for you. Probably looking at $40 bucks?

Don't take apart the braking system unless you want the fun job of bleeding them.

If you got the cam washers set right your alignment should be rather close, but it's still a good idea to get it realigned.

Good luck!

Check your gmail.
I sent you a PDF copy of the suspension section of the 2000 Dakota FSM. Should be the same as yours.
