Subject: Leveling Kit for 1991-1996 Dakota

I am looking at a leveling kit on ebay for my 1991 3.9 4x4 dakota. Says it lifts the front about 2-3" and the rear 2" without needing to replace the shocks. Anyone have any experience with these kits?

you should not need the torsion keys unless your springs are worn out
i can crank pass side up to the bumpstop. the drivers side however i cannot becuase it is worn out
and i have a v-8 with v-6 springs

when i had the v6 all i did was crank the front up almsot the the stops, then put some $40 add a leafs in the rear
that was agood for about 1.5"

Update: I had the torsion key kit installed and lifted the front nearly 3" and the rear 2" with the spring blocks included in the kit. My previously awesome dak rode like a wagon!! Absolutely horrible. Took the blocks off the next day and just leveled the truck with the torsion keys. This is marketed as a lift kit. It is not, unless you can tolerate a ride like a tank. FYI, there's no cheap way to get a good lift. Right now I believe it is set about 3/4 inch above where the stock torsion keys allow. It was a total performance kit by the way.

Super Bee, how much work was it for you to do the 318 swap? I'm about to pull one from a Durango. I have the ECM and wiring harness already, anything else I might need aside from the motor?

Redtomatoman, your shocks
were probably topped out
that's why it road like crap.
Most leveling kits for most
makes all say they can be
used with stock shocks, not
true. I have personally
installed leveling kits on ford,
gm and just cranked torsion
bars on various trucks, and
90% maxed out the shocks
and gave a hard ride. I would
have tried some shocks that
are a little longer. I seen the
shocks top out so bad that u
could bounce the front tires
off the ground, then after
longer shocks the truck rode
better than stock. I have
been doin suspension work
for almost 12yr and no matter
what some of these
companies claim sometimes u
don't know till u try.
