I took my truck into be serviced last friday.. I needed to have the body side moulding fixed. Also I was hearing a ratteling noise under the back right side of my truck when I would hit bumps while driving slow.. Never noticed when driving fast because of wind noise. Anyway I called them 2 weeks ahead of time so they could order the moulding and have it there waiting when I got there. I left my truck at 9 and got it back at 5:30 in the afternoon. They said 2 weeks ago that it'd take about 30 minutes. The ratteling under the back of my truck still was happening and the service manager tried blaming it on the Sheet Metal screws that were used to bolt down my tool box. Guess what I took the box out of my truck.. and it still happens. I also asked them about skid plates for my truck and they said that Mopar doesn't offer them. Then I start talking to another guy there w/ a Dakota his hood was put on crooked and the wind sheld was rubbing on the hood. Dodge wanted the truck for a whole day... Yea long story short.. BAH!! ;-) anyone w/ something similar?

Hoo boy! Where to start? I took mine in with squeaking & clunking in the front end last year. They had it from 8:00 til 5:30 and "weren't sure, could be ball joints". In which case, the job done by them required replacing the entire assembly at a cost of over $1200 for parts alone! An alignment centre diagnosed the problem in 5 min., ordered aftermarket parts, finished the job in one day for $770. It just goes on. I had to ride with the mechanic to convince them to check my cat, they tried to tell me I needed a new exhaust. Etc., etc. And... here's the kicker - the guy who owns the dealership wanted to know if I was single - man if he couldn't even service my TRUCK..:> LOL. Anyhow, I found a great mechanic who is a Dodge guy, he drag races, has a couple of restored daks and is HONEST.

I have had problems with service as well. To lengthy to get into but here is one.
I had my truck in for warranty work when I got it back to was dusk so I did not notice anything. Well Pulled into my garage closed the door took one look back, cause I am always checking the look, and I saw a dent in my fender like a dimple. The size of a quater no mark or anything in the paint. Of couse the dealer denies any wrong doing. I know every scrap, scratch, chip, dent in my paint that one was not there. I know where I park everyday this is impossible. Well as I am pursuing this my truck is hit in out yard at work and a trucker basically dragged a 48' ocean container over the hood of my truck and got this fixed from that. The interesting thing is I was at the dealer a few months later dropping off my wifes van and this guy is there arguing the same claim I had. Same type of dent and everything. I told him my story and not to leave until they listened to him. I do not know what happened but very coincedental I think.

Yeah, I had a very similar experience. I'd only had my truck about 4 months so of course I knew every minute scratch. It came back with a scratch near the hood latch that could have come from a belt buckle. It also had some kind of oily crap on the front bumper that took 2 washes to get rid of .

My truck was only 2 months old when it got Ran over. :(

When I had my wifes van serviced it came back and was leaking fluid it went un-noticed since she hardly drives any more. She came up to me one night and said my car is making a strange noise when I turn. I pulled the car out and all over the never been dripped on pan is Fluid, steering fluid. It was a month later and of course the dealer would have nothing to do with it. I think she had put about 150 miles on it since that Major service.
I do not go to the dealer any more. I have found a good, Trust worthy mechanic locally now.

never-never-never take your beloved Dak to the dealer for servicing. NEVER! They are on a tight schedule to make $$$ money $$$ and they tend to lean on their own biases and opinions and ways to squeeze cash-ola out of anyone and everyone they can. The dont consider who you are or what your expertise is.

For all of my mechanical problems that I cannot handle, I go somewhere else that takes my word for things and doesnt try to bleed me dry and wish I hadnt been there.

I have a story about a Dodge dealership trying (once again) to make me pay $945 for a repair, and on the "contract" it had written by the shop mechanic "...this may or may not solve the problem". I went somewhere else and got a second opinion. He fixed it for $135. Dealerships can kiss my Ace!

Lesley: I was just wondering what kind of rims you had on your Dak. They are pretty sweet looking. Thanks.
